SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Shrewsbury
Duration: Full time, Ongoing
Salary: £90 – £105 per day (dependent on experience)The Role:We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant, inclusive SEN school in Shrewsbury, renowned for its dedication to supporting students with a wide range of learning needs. This is a full-time, ongoing role, offering an exciting opportunity to work with children who have complex needs, including ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties), and SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties).The school prides itself on creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for its students, encouraging both their academic and personal development. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a committed team of teachers and support staff to ensure that all students have the opportunity to thrive.Key Duties:Constant Supervision: Provide vigilant support and supervision to ensure the safety of students, particularly those with complex needs, in both classroom and outdoor settings.
Building Trusting Relationships: Develop strong, trusting relationships with students to create a positive and safe learning environment. Foster emotional growth and resilience.
Sensory Activity Assistance: Support students with engaging in sensory-based learning and therapeutic activities, encouraging their active participation and learning through sensory experiences.
Outdoor Activities: Organise and facilitate outdoor activities, ensuring students have opportunities for physical exercise, sensory experiences, and to promote overall well-being.
Personal Care and Daily Living: Provide support with personal care as required, promoting independence in daily tasks in a sensitive and respectful manner.Key Skills:Experience with SEN: Experience working with children with a variety of special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, MLD, SLD, and complex needs.
Behaviour Management: Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour in a positive, calm manner, and to work closely with the teaching team to support students in managing their emotions and actions.
Communication: Strong communication skills, with the ability to use alternative communication systems such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or Makaton, to support non-verbal or minimally verbal students.
Empathy and Patience: A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students with complex learning and physical needs.
Teamwork: A strong ability to collaborate with other professionals, including teachers, therapists, and support staff, to provide a holistic approach to the students’ learning and well-being.
Adaptability: The ability to adjust learning and behaviour strategies to meet the diverse needs of the students, creating a positive, tailored learning experience for each child.Benefits:Access to SENCO support within the school

Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (desirable)PECS and Makaton experience or willingness to undergo training (desirable)
Recent school-based references
Valid Photo ID (e.g., Driving Licence or Passport)
