Senior Administrator – Wales Peatland Restoration Team

Join our fabulous Peatland Team as our new Senior Administrator and help us make the world a better place for nature and people.

Over the last five years the team have restored over 1300ha of precious blanket bog, at and adjacent to Lake Vyrnwy, building collaborative partnerships, pioneering new approaches and driving wider ambition.

Our plans for the next five years are equally ambitious and as our Peatland Senior Administrator you will be critical to the team’s success. You will provide comprehensive business and financial support for a work programme spanning multiple sites, teams and funders. You will join a team making a positive difference to nature, climate and people every day.

This is a Hybrid role – The successful candidate will be expected to work at least one day a week from the RSPB Lake Vyrnwy office in Mid Wales

Key areas of responsibility

  • Provide comprehensive business and financial administrative support for the peatland delivery programme, working across multidisciplinary teams to deliver functional operations.
  • Manage financial processes including supporting grant applications, managing funding streams and keeping accurate financial records to support budgeting, delivery, reporting and auditing.
  • Work collaboratively with people at all levels, both within RSPB and across external stakeholders, building productive professional relationships that deliver more for nature, carbon and people.
  • Provide comprehensive support for effective contract management, including procurement, contract set up, invoicing, auditing and record keeping.
  • Provide IT system support and ensure complex, sensitive data sets are maintained, organised and secure.
  • Support the team to deliver compliant work programmes, managing consents, licenses, CDM and H&S regulations and standards.
  • Provide a first point of contact for all enquires and be an important link with our partners and supporters.

Essentials

  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to support colleagues in using these tools when needed.
  • Experience using Excel for accurate data management – including maintaining, analysing and reporting on data.
  • Experience supporting financial processes – such as budgeting, invoicing, financial record-keeping or reporting.
  • Clear and professional communication skills – able to communicate effectively with colleagues, partners, funders and contractors by phone, email and in person.
  • Experience organising meetings or events – including coordinating logistics, administration and follow-up tasks.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities – meeting deadlines and resolving administrative issues using initiative and good judgement.
  • Experience handling confidential information – managing sensitive data with discretion, accuracy and respect for privacy requirements.
  • Experience providing administrative support across teams – supporting multiple projects, stakeholders or workstreams.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships – collaborating positively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of health and safety procedures – and the ability to follow them in day-to-day administrative and operational tasks.
  • Relevant education or equivalent experience – A-Level study or comparable knowledge gained through work, volunteering or other learning routes.
  • Interest & awareness of conservation issues – gained through study, work, volunteering or personal interest.

An understanding of the Welsh language is desirable.

Additional Information

This is a Fixed-Term role to July 2028 for 22.5 hours per week. Additional hours may be available subject to funding. We reserve the right to extend or make permanent at any time.
