By investing in funds, secondaries, and directly in private equity, we seek opportunities to build a global, diversified portfolio that will outperform comparable passive public alternatives over the long term. The Private Equity Business Management group leads business management activities that support the operations of the investment department in an efficient and effective manner.We are recruiting a Senior Analyst/Associate, Business Management within the PE department based in Toronto. The role will support key processes and deliverables related to the investment process, governance and compliance, internal and external communications, reporting, departmental procedures, IT systems and business continuity.The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and business writing skills, investment knowledge, and is an enthusiastic problem solver. In this role, it is critical to be able to multitask and work well under pressure, learn systems and processes, possess a strong attention to detail and an ability to collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholders and departments. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and an active listener, who asks questions to attain clarity and can develop concise communication to be shared both internally and externally.Role-Specific Accountabilities:Business Management/Operations:
- Update and maintain department policies and procedures, and handle related inquiries
- Manage communication updates for external and internal websites, pitchbooks, etc.
- Manage the due diligence closing file process, other document management processes and information requests
- Coordinate departmental deal pipeline data requirements for PE
- Manage the coordination of departmental data requirements (e.g. holdings data, market data and subscriptions)
- Support Enterprise-wide change initiatives e.g. Workplace Technology, Facilities and Office Services and Enterprise Risk
- Support internal audit requests for the PE department
- Represent PE on the Business Continuity Management team and maintain PE’s Impact Plan
- Contribute to the on-going effort to expand department-wide knowledge sharing and collaboration including efficient access to data used by the investment teams
- Coordinate user requirements gathering and provide testing support for new departmental systems and tools
- Support internal investment committee processes and investment-approval related activities
- Act as back up investment committee secretary if required
- Other relevant duties and projects as assigned
Portfolio Analytics/Monitoring:
- Assist in the preparation of management reports and portfolio analysis
- Support deal teams with aggregating and reporting on key metrics to monitor investment performance
- Contribute to the ongoing collection, oversight and review of critical data elements relevant to portfolio holdings
- Perform additional analysis in support of portfolio monitoring activities
- Execute on ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support business management and investment decisions
- Understand various platforms and business intelligence tools to retrieve data as well as guide/train investment professionals to become self-serve
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Finance, Commerce, Business, Accounting or Economics
- 2-5 years of finance and /or investment related experience; private asset experience is considered an asset
- Solid understanding of the investment industry, in particular knowledge and understanding of operations and processes is an asset
- Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and work in a high-performing culture
- Highly organized, proven attention to accuracy and detail and an ability to produce high-quality work under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines
- Strong analytical and financial reporting skills; ability to solve multi-dimensional problems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships effectively across all levels
- Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and new challenges
- Proven ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel), and able to learn new systems and applications quickly
