TVF is sector agnostic and invests in late seed to Series B companies with strong growth and highly scalable market potential, that bring together the best innovation, team, and resources to transform today’s markets.As a Senior Analyst, you will be an integral member of our investment team and involved in all aspects of the investment and portfolio management process. You will assist the team in building and managing an existing and growing portfolio of investments, work on new investments and help us build the next fund to support even more women in tech in Canada. The next generation of exceptional Canadian technology champions will be led by women, and funded by BDC’s Thrive Venture Fund.CHALLENGES TO BE METKey responsibilities include:Build competitive and market intelligence for existing investments, and provide forward-looking sectoral analysis;Preparing and supporting internal investment documents as required;Conducting due diligence support on potential investments which includes: research and analysis on markets, ecosystems, financial forecasts, management, competition, etc. This involves talking to competitors and customers, analyzing research reports, interviewing and gathering information from industry experts, working with technical consultants to evaluate technologies, building valuation models and financial pro formas.Conducting initial business plan reviews, manage initial communications with entrepreneurs and referring sources, and prepare initial interview memoranda and recommendations to pursue or decline investment opportunities.Tracking/reporting on metrics, monitoring investment portfolios, providing financial, forecasting and statistical analyses, and identifying potential opportunities and issuesManaging internal reporting requirements by acting as a liaison with the back-office to perform semi-annual valuations and other requests;Assist in managing the deal pipeline, quarterly/bi-annual reports, and providing financial analysis.Source new investment opportunities, collaborate in the evaluation and assessment of new and follow-on investments and participate in deal execution.Represent the BDC Thrive Venture Fund team at conferences and other industry events to build a relevant network of contacts and identify new investment opportunities.Support other Venture Capital team members as appropriate during the development stage of an investmentSupport portfolio companies by monitoring investment portfolios, providing financial, forecasting and statistical analyses, and identifying potential opportunities and issuesWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOREducation and relevant work experience combines the following:Two years+ of work experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, management consulting with technology companies.Undergraduate degree in business, engineering or computer science with a preference for MBA.Interest in early stage technology ecosystem, startupsRelevant experience within a startup or emerging technology companyThe ideal candidate will also possess strong networking skills and relationships in the start-up community as well as demonstrated ability in investment management and company analysis.Skills & KnowledgeSuperior skills in financial analysis, financial modeling, research and a keen ability to turn data into actionable insights;A team player with strong verbal and written skills and demonstrated ability to produce and deliver clear and concise oral, written and PowerPoint presentations;Intellectual curiosity, excellent analytical and synthesis skills, ability to assess the merits of new technologies, size and adoption rates of markets, and competitive forces faced when introducing new products;Data-driven and ability to evaluate and value technology-oriented, early-stage businesses and develop independent conclusions and investment theses;Excellent organization skills and detailed-oriented with a self-starter mentality and strong attention to detail;Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, deal with abstract concepts and multi-task;Highly proficient in Excel and financial modelling with an ability to prepare financial forecasts and pro-forma financial statements;Capability of taking initiatives and an ability to work independently, remotely and within a small team environment, rolling up their sleeves and getting the job done;Passionate about technology, entrepreneurship and investing and interested in bringing a can-do attitude to a growing and dynamic teamProudly one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, we are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible environment where all employees can thrive and feel empowered to bring their whole selves to work.
