Job description

About usThe London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) is an interdisciplinary enterprise between University College London, King’s College London and Imperial College London. In bringing together world-class infrastructure and leading nanotechnology research activities, the Centre aims to attain the critical mass to compete with the best facilities abroad. The LCN has strong relationships with the broader nanotechnology and commercial communities, and is involved in much major collaboration. As the world’s only such facility to be located in the heart of a metropolis, the LCN has superb access to corporate, investment and industrial partners. It is at the forefront of training in nanotechnology, and has a strong media presence aimed at educating the public and bringing transparency to this emerging science. Our hub is one of five national quantum research hubs supported by £160 million in funding from the £2.5 billion National Quantum Technologies Programme. Q-BIOMED aims to deliver a step change in earlier disease diagnosis and treatment for diseases including cancer and Alzheimer’s disease (https://www.qbiomed.org.uk). We aim to develop ultra-sensitive blood tests, faster MRI scan times, and improved healthcare access through lower costs and portable instruments. In addition, quantum technologies will enable new interventional tools for surgery and treatment, and new tools for basic life sciences research, to study disease at single cell and single molecule scales. These advances could enable much earlier diagnosis of disease such as cancer allowing for more rapid medical interventions and potentially saving lives. Ultimately, this could translate to better patient outcomes and help to reduce waiting lists, easing pressures on the NHS.Our Hub is funded by UKRI and NIHR, benefiting from a large-scale multidisciplinary project bringing together six outstanding academic powerhouses (UCL, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Warwick, Cardiff University, and Heriot-Watt University), working in partnership with six NHS trusts, as well as charities, government, and 17 industry partners.About the roleWe seek a highly proactive individual to lead, manage and implement the £24M Q-BIOMED business development strategy, working with the Directors, Management Committee and Advisory Board for this major UK national programme. The Senior Business Development Manager role forms part of the Q-BIOMED Strategic Operations Team and is required to work closely and build excellent relationships with the Senior Hub Manager and Senior Communications Manager, to maximise Hub impact.
