Marine Stewardship Council
Do you want your research to shape sustainable fishing practices? Can you turn complex data
into actionable insights – and help others do the same? If this sounds like your type of
challenge, this may be the role for you!
Join Marine Stewardship Council as our Senior Climate Change & Biodiversity Research
Manager (maternity cover) and help us develop applied science to support one of the world’s
most renowned seafood ecolabels.
Within Marine Stewardship Council, you’ll apply your scientific expertise to research
addressing the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss in marine ecosystems. You
will contribute to high-impact studies on climate-resilient fisheries – work that feeds
directly into global policy conversations and helps shape the change in sustainable fishing.
Collaborating with leading scientists from academia, NGOs, and scientific advisory bodies
across continents, your research will be translated into practical tools and strategies that
influence decision-making. This is an opportunity to do meaningful research with the support of
a collegiate, creative and mission-driven team.
We’re looking for a marine scientist with experience in a range of fisheries management and
biodiversity impact topics, with a desire to contribute to interdisciplinary research.
Working within MSC’s multi-national and multi-disciplinary Research team, the Senior
Climate Change & Biodiversity Research Manager will help shepherd and communicate key
ongoing research projects, with particular focus on climate-resilient fisheries management and
fisheries impacts such as bycatch. This is a key role in ensuring the MSC’s research program’s
technical support, and consequently, the program’s credibility.
- Substantial experience in applied marine sciences, with strong knowledge of fisheries
management (PhD desirable, but equivalent experience welcomed). - Proven experience in advanced data analysis and statistics, strong knowledge of R, Python,
SQL preferred, ideally including GIS tools. - A track record of strong project management skills, delivering applied, policy-orientated
research. - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex science clearly to
diverse audiences. - A collaborative, proactive approach and genuine enthusiasm for marine conservation and the
MSC’s mission.
If this has inspired you, please apply!
We look forward to hearing from you!
Working at the MSC
The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies
safeguarded for this and future generations. Today, the impacts of overfishing and climate
change pose an even greater threat to the ocean and fish stocks. Through our internationally
recognised certification and ecolabeling program, well-managed sustainable fisheries are
recognised and rewarded throughout the seafood supply chain. Over 700 fisheries around the
world, representing 19% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC program
and MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 66 countries. Through
partnerships and collective endeavour, we are on a mission to end overfishing.
