We wish to appoint 1 Senior Clinical fellow at ST/CT 3-8 in Acute Medicine on a 12-month contract. The post is based in the Acute Medicine department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary that will work across both our Acute Medicine Assessment unit and within our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit. The post has a potential negotiable on-call commitment, at the same frequency as the other SpRs.The Acute Medicine Team covers 34 in-patient beds across a Acute Medicine Assessment unit and Medical SDEC unit which is comprised of a 30 person waiting room and 10 cubicles within our treatment area. There are opportunities to also be involved in the Acute Medicine Clinic and AKI Clinic, accepting the full range of acutely unwell patients.Main duties of the jobFor this Juior Clinical Fellow post, we are looking for a candidate to work both ward shifts (09:00-17:00) and on SDEC (10:00-18:00), normal working days, predominantly on our Medical SDEC unit and possible Acute Medicine Assessment Unit when needed. The purpose of this post is to provide senior leadership to our Medical SDEC unit, Acute Medicine Assessment Unit and clinical teams who work within them. We would be looking for the successful candidate to help lead with service development and exploring ideas to help further the success of our SDEC/AMU department.The Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) has 520 beds and is the city’s main teaching hospital. The Out-Patient Department holds Clinics for all the major specialties and deals with 153,600 patients per year. The Hospital’s Emergency Department deals with 70% of the City’s accident cases. Separate units for Haematology, Oncology, Eye, Dental, Children and Maternity cases are within a radius of a quarter of a mile. The purpose of this post is to provide senior leadership to our Medical SDEC unit and clinical teams who work within it. We would be looking for the successful candidate to help lead with service development and exploring ideas to help further the success of our SDEC department.Clinical supervision will be provided by the relevant specialty consultants. Knowledge and Experience
Essential

  • Confident in assessing, resuscitating and stabilising acutely sick patients
  • Able to participate as member of cardiac arrest team
  • Demonstrates good clinical judgement
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clinical governance
  • Experience of Specialty Care within UK
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination

Desirable

  • Training /experience in Respiratory Failure and management of patients on NIV/CPAP
  • Designed and / or completed audits

Skills and Abilities
Essential

  • Evidence of good multidisciplinary team working and leadership supported by multi-source feedback or other workplace-bases assessments
  • The ability to practice independently under consultant supervision and supervise/teach junior medical staff
  • Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-bases assessments, portfolio evidence, including logbook documentation if applicable
  • Inquiring and critical approach to work

Desirable

  • Evidence of a portfolio of audit projects where the audit loop has been closed

Aptitudes
Essential

  • Evidence of enthusiasm for education and training

Desirable

  • Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (e.g ALERT IMPACT certification)
  • Demonstrate an interest and understanding of Acute Medicine
  • Evidence of involvement in management

Qualifications and Training
Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • ALS certification or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD
