SENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW In PRE-HOSPITAL EMERGENCY MEDICINE And EMERGENCY MEDICINEThere are 3 posts available for 12 months from 6th August 2025 to 4th August 2026 and is not recognised for training.University Hospital Wales (UHW), Cardiff are excited to offer a 1 or 2 year, full time Fellowship in Emergency & Community Prehospital Emergency Medicine. This programme is for energetic, enthusiastic doctors of ST3/ST4+ or equivalent level in Emergency Medicine who wish to develop their prehospital emergency medicine (PHEM) skills in the first Welsh Major Trauma Centre (MTC) and its partner the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST).Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate would work at the MTC (University Hospital Wales, Cardiff) and on the Welsh Enhanced Care Response unit (WECRU), spending 50% of their time in hospital and 50% of their time prehospital. They will be joining a well-staffed and supportive hospital team containing 25 Consultants and 13 Registrars in Emergency Medicine. The Welsh ECRU is a new development in partnership with UHW and WAST and hopes to build on & streamline clinical pathways for patients that may attend the ED. This is a unique opportunity to help build a system dedicated to improving emergency care in the vibrant city of Cardiff.There are very few opportunities nationally for trainees to develop and gain first-hand experience in PHEM. This is a superb opportunity for trainees who wish to build on their PHEM portfolio for potential National PHEM selection. UHW has appointed a Consultant in PHEM who will be overlooking your training and encouraging participation in PHEM governance and quality improvement projects.Eligible candidates will be GMC registered doctors with at least 18 months experience of working in Emergency Medicine in the UK as a middle grade (i.e. able to lead a department at night with remote supervision) and at least 3 months experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, 6 months experience in Anaesthesia, 6 months experience in Intensive Care Medicine and 6 months experience in Acute General Medicine.About usCardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest Integrated Health Boards in the UK, employing over 15,000 staff, providing over 100 specialist services. Qualifications
Essential

• MBBS or equivalent
• Life Support provider status on ALS, APLS or ATLS/ETC
• MRCEM

Desirable

• Intercalated Degree
• Academic Excellence
• Instructor status in Life support Courses

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Essential

• 12 months experience of working in Emergency Medicine in the UK as a middle grade (i.e. able to lead a department at night with remote supervision).
• 4 years of post graduate experience in specialities relevant to emergency medicine

Desirable

• Some experience in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine, paediatrics, intensive care, anaesthesia, acute medicine.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE , ABILITIES
Essential

• Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical and legal topics with patients and colleagues
• Special interest or previous experience in medicolegal medicine.
• Evidence of recent quality improvement projects or audit.

Desirable

• Evidence of Teaching experience
