This is a fantastic job opportunity coming up at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. This has the responsibility for teaching Imperial undergraduates in their year 5 obstetrics and gynaecology firms. The post offers the candidate the opportunity to obtain a higher qualification in Medical Education and to join part of a vibrant Undergraduate Faculty comprising 11 Teaching Fellows across a number of specialities as well as working in a very busy obstetrics and gynaecology unit. There is the opportunity for exposure in both obstetrics and gynaecology commensurate with the successful candidates’ previous experience. This post is best suited for someone who is planning a career in obstetrics and gynaecology but would like also to have enhanced training and education.Main duties of the jobThis job description is for a Senior Clinical fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at ST5-7 level with opportunity to have training in general obstetrics and gynaecology.The emergency gynaecology workload has increased with the reconfiguration of Emergency Departments across North West London. There is an emergency gynae/early pregnancy unit at Northwick Park and an early pregnancy unit at Ealing Hospital. Acute pelvic sepsis is common and emergency theatre cases varied, providing opportunities for experience in managing such cases.The job involves cross site working at Northwick Park Hospital and Ealing Hospital. The appointee will be involved with the ST5-7 rota for obstetrics and gynaecology covering on-call commitments at Northwick Park.Flexibility is a desired feature for any post holder. We are a busy department and occasionally it is necessary to modify the individual time table should there be acute and unexpected shortage of staff. Job responsibilitiesThis job description is for a Senior Clinical fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at ST5-7 level with opportunity to have training in general obstetrics and gynaecology.Many opportunities available for those wishing to pursue ATSMs. The post holder will be an integral part of the general obstetrics and gynaecology team with cross site working at Ealing and Northwick Park Hospitals as part of the senior middle graderota.Following the closure of the maternity unit at Ealing the obstetric workload is based at Northwick Park. This consists of mostly high risk patients with diverse medical conditions. Currently there are 6000 bookings with an annual delivery rate of approximately 5000 deliveries at the NP site. There are specialised clinics for diabetes, maternal medicine, haematological conditions and multiple pregnancy. The labour ward has 98 hours consultant presence and further on call cover. This is separate from the gynaecology consultant cover. Ante natal clinics are at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex. There is a high risk delivery suite with dedicated theatres, HDU, triage, observation bay and recovery unit. There is also midwifery led ward for low risk women and those wishing to have a water birth.The emergency gynaecology workload has increased with the reconfiguration of Emergency Departments across North West London. Gynaecology in patient and theatre facilities are located within the main hospital. Both hospitals have comprehensive imaging facilities including CT and MRI suites.There is a committed educational department with weekly SHO tutorials, MDT’s,weekly oncology MDT’s, weekly emergency gynaecology MDT.The job involves cross site working at Northwick Park Hospital and Ealing Hospital.The appointee will be involved with the ST5-7 rota for obstetrics and gynaecology covering on-call commitments at Northwick Park.Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
Essential

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Competency & experience to ST5-7 registrar level
  • IT skills & computer literacy
  • NHS experience within the last 3 years
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
  • Completed audits

Desirable

  • Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
  • Organisational experience

Education & Qualifications
Essential

  • MRCOG Part 3
  • On GMC – registered Medical Practitioner

  • Another higher qualification PhD, MD (higher academic MD)
