This is an exciting opportunity to join Energy Saving Trust’s growing energy access team
working within the international team to develop and deliver our global portfolio of work.
You’ll be part of a team working to make a positive impact on the lives of people and
businesses in the Global South, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. You’ll support
the delivery of our multi-annual and multi-million-pound initiatives funded by UK Aid and IKEA
Foundation and jointly managed with our partner CLASP:
- The Low Energy Inclusive Appliances Programme is a research and innovation programme that
seeks to improve the efficiency, performance, availability and affordability of a range of
household, community and productive use solar appliances and technologies. It’s the flagship
initiative of… - The Efficiency for Access Coalition, a global coalition working to accelerating the uptake
of off and weak-grid appliances to boost incomes, reduce carbon emissions, improve quality of
life, and support sustainable development.
The role
Are you a dynamic and motivated senior communications specialist with a passion for working in
international development?
The senior communications and engagement manager is a pivotal role in our energy access team
with a mission to shine a light, stimulate conversations and advocate for the importance of
off- and weak-grid technologies for the achievement of global sustainable development and
climate goals.
You’ll ensure we have our finger on the pulse and work with the team to keep on top of the
latest sector (and nexus sector) trends, setting the agenda by translating research and insight
into impactful communications that deliver meaningful and impactful outcomes.
What you’ll do
You’ll be responsible for Energy Saving Trust’s strategic communications and engagement with
associated partners for our energy access work. You’ll manage two marketing communications
executives.
You’ll work together with the energy access team and key delivery partners to devise
communications strategies and plans that build the awareness, knowledge and engagement of key
stakeholders in the off-grid energy access sector and important “nexus” sectors, including
agriculture, humanitarian and health.
Working together with teammates and our delivery partners, you’ll harness their expertise and
thought leadership to create compelling communications, campaigns and events, leveraging
partnerships to amplify and extend our reach and influence.
You’ll ensure the effective engagement of our target audiences, including development
organisations, implementing agencies, private sector players, policymakers, investors, learning
institutions and affected communities amongst others.
What you’ll bring:
We’re looking for someone who is values-driven and wants to work for a cause that they believe
in. Our ideal candidate will have an understanding of issues relating to energy access in
developing countries and/or off- and weak-grid technologies and the associated market barriers
and solutions, with a focus on Sub Saharan Africa and South Asia. You will have a track record
of designing and curating impactful communications campaigns, events & exhibits and
creating targeted and compelling content for a variety of channels and media, ideally in a
cutting-edge sector.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a knack for understanding the perspectives of different stakeholders and possesses a
creative flair for translating technical research and complex information into impactful
communications, tailored to different audiences. - Experienced in managing individuals, teams and budgets.
- Naturally self-motivated, with a willingness to learn and the ability to inspire and manage
joint working in complex, multi-disciplinary teams, in partnership with others, ideally with
experience working on large-scale multi-partner international projects. - Able to demonstrate the ability to think and plan strategically and analyse complex problems,
presenting and delivering workable solutions that ensure effective risk mitigation. - Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. Experienced in working with diverse
people from different cultures, backgrounds and fields. - Excellent organisational and project management skills, be able to prioritise own workload
effectively and co-ordinate several projects and tasks in parallel within exacting deadlines.
