Join us.Job DescriptionAligned with both global and Canadian directions towards net zero, we are seeing an increase in demand to identify and implement low carbon and net zero pathways and solutions as we move towards a net zero future. This covers a wide variety of areas from carbon accounting, science-based target setting, net zero/low carbon strategy and implementation plans.The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering carbon management services for several major public and private sector clients, helping them to meet their Net Zero targets and ambitions. Our clients cover a range of sectors, including public, industrial, oil & gas and aviation. We also seek to develop decarbonization roadmaps that support long-term strategic, incorporation innovation, and align with strategic business mandates. As such, to be successful in this role, your technical acumen will need to be coupled with an ability to think strategically and innovatively about decarbonization This role will sit within AECOM Canada’s ESG & Carbon team.The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Lead and deliver decarbonization planning and emissions quantification projects, while maintaining the high-quality professional outputs that we are known for. Additional senior level support and quality review will be provided, but it is an expectation that this resource will be able to serve as a technical lead on GHG and decarbonization mandates.
- Lead small technical teams and manage client relationships effectively.
- Support the development of junior decarbonization/GHG team members.
- Support the growth of our carbon practices. This includes both internal and external-facing elements. The successful candidate will be expected to liaise internally with AECOM design and delivery teams to identify opportunities to align projects with client decarbonization objectives. In addition, the successful candidate will lead the development of carbon related proposals owned by the ESG & Carbon team.
QualificationsHere’s what we need from you:We are looking for established practitioners with the following:
- BA/BS degree plus 4 years of relevant experience
- Experienced in full Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon accounting including across complex multi-national organisations and a strong understanding in the application of key standards and guidelines.
- Experience in creating credible and evidence-based net zero and decarbonisation strategies (including cost-benefit analysis) and supporting businesses to develop and deliver implementation plans across scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emission sources.
- Experience and comfort in driving decarbonization business development activities: proposal development, client business development calls, sales presentations, development of cost estimates, etc.
- Knowledge of target setting approaches, including science-based targets.
- Demonstratable ability to lead projects and small technical teams.
- Technical knowledge and / or training in a relevant field, such environment and sustainability, or environmental engineering.
- Demonstratable knowledge on current Canadian and relevant global policies, legislation and guidance and wider best practice on carbon management, reporting, target setting and reduction (such as PAS2080:2023, SBTi, TCFD, CSSB/ISSB, etc.).
- Independent research and analytical skills – you’re able to identify, review and synthesize key findings in scientific and engineering literature, reports – with a keen interest of staying on top of new standards, certifications, and technologies.
- Energy efficiency / GHG management; including a deep technical understanding of decarbonization mechanisms and technologies.
- Ability to write concise, clear and effective narratives in reporting, in presentations, and contributions to proposals and communicate effectively to a wide-variety of audiences, including technical and executive-level.
- Interest in developing innovative, thought leadership, related to decarbonization.
- Direct experience in a consulting environment, including client-relationship management.
- A desire to always deliver technical excellence.
The following qualifications will be considered an additional asset:
- 6+ years of relevant experience
- ISO 14064-1,2 and 3 certification and direct GHG verification experience.
- Experience in conducting life cycle assessments.
- Familiarity with ESG and climate-related disclosure.
- Knowledge and experience with the carbon offset market
