Job intro

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Ecological Consultant professional to contribute to
Gavia’s growing portfolio of BNG, renewable energy and linear infrastructure projects. This
role will be focused on BNG and ecology projects within England.

Location

We are seeking to recruit this role to our London office. However, we could consider an
alternative base location in England for an exceptional candidate.

Essential knowledge & experience

To be successful in this role, we expect you would:

  • hold a relevant degree or equivalent higher education qualification or equivalent level of
    ecological skills and knowledge.
  • have experience of ecological survey and assessment at all scales.
  • have a demonstrable knowledge of a range of survey methods, assessment types and taxa.
  • have project management experience at all scales.
  • be able to work in a fast-paced environment and able to set and manage deadlines and team
    members.
  • hold relevant professional membership or be working towards it.
  • have experience of client and stakeholder engagement and liaison.

Role responsibilities

This role will report to our Technical Director (Ecology – England) but will involved working
on ecology and BNG projects across England.

The core duties of the Senior Ecological Consultant post are as follows:

  • To effectively manage projects, including budgets, client and stakeholder liaison, field
    work and technical report deliverables;
  • To contribute to, and have a keenness to take the lead on tender and fee proposal
    production;
  • To lead and contribute to field work from biodiversity net gain condition surveys, NVC and
    protected species survey or Ecological Clerk of Works;
  • To contribute to business development, including attracting new clients and generating new
    business through active engagement with our partners and clients;
  • To lead on technical advice and interviews when recruiting for junior ecology staff, with
    the support of GEL directors;
  • To successfully deliver projects in line with our GEL and CIEEM technical standards and
    best practice;
  • To manage, mentor and guide less experienced ecologists;
  • To contribute to and, where appropriate, lead on ecology team or company wide training;
  • To remain up to date with best practice, policy, guidance and legislation and contribute to
    exploring new ways of working and innovation opportunities so that we may improve our practices
    and ensure a high quality of technical output;
  • To operate in compliance with the GEL Staff Handbook, appropriate Code(s) of Professional
    Conduct and with strict regard to relevant legal requirements; and
  • To continue to develop professionally and to make a positive contribution to the promotion
    of the GEL.

Salary & benefits

For a small SME, Gavia is able to offer an attractive salary. The salary associated with this
role will be dependent on your existing skills and experience. We work on a 40 hours per week
basis, and along with your base salary, we offer a range of other core benefits, including
share scheme, 25 days of holiday, Scottish Bank Holidays (9, regardless of base location),
private medical insurance, company pension scheme, paid annual professional membership renewal,
IT discounts, provision of all site PPE, as well as, waterproof, windproof and thermal tactical

For this role, you must have evidence of the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are not
