We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Ecologist to join our team on a full time
permanent basis.

The Senior Ecologist (SE) will ensure compliance with statutory and voluntary commitments with
respect to biodiversity. Working within the Anglian Water (AW) Biodiversity Team and
collaborating with others across AW, its Alliance partners and wider supply chain, the SE will
support the business to meet its needs whilst contributing to its Purpose, to bring
environmental and social prosperity to the region through our commitment to love every drop.

What you’ll be doing:

  •   Liaise with Alliance partners to understand the forward programme of work and anticipate
    which schemes may need a habitats regulations assessment (HRA)
  • When Anglian Water is the competent authority, assess ecological reports and advice from
    consultant ecologists to ensure that development proceeds according to HRA requirements.
    Approve schemes as required.
  • Develop and maintain relations with Natural England (NE) and ensure NE is engaged, as
    required, during any Appropriate Assessments that are undertaken
  • Maintain awareness of work programmes and stage gates
  • For our major projects, maintain awareness of activities relating to ecology, environmental
    management, and invasive species, providing support and leadership as necessary on role-related
    matters
  • Undertake monitoring, directly or through consultants, of BNG sites to track the change in
    biodiversity units
  • Ensure AW’s BNG position with respect to its voluntary and statutory commitment is up to
    date, using AW’s BNG tool
  • Work with the Biodiversity team to identify opportunities to improve performance with
    respect to ecology and environmental management-related matters.

What does it take to be successful?

  • Graduate degree in relevant topic or demonstrable working experience
  • Considerable experience in Habitats Regulations Assessment
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institute or body (eg. CIEEM)
  • Hold protected species licences for one or more species is desirable
  • Experience of conservation and enhancement of land for biodiversity
  • Plan, prioritise and organise workload so that targets and deadlines are met to ensure
    efficient and effective support to all teams
  • Ability to undertake UK Hab and BNG habitat condition assessment
  • Strong working knowledge of UK nature conservation legislation
