Senior Ecologist

Norfolk Wildlife Services is seeking a Senior Ecologist to undertake the professional delivery
and completion of a wide range of ecological consultancy contracts on behalf of NWS clients.

Norfolk Wildlife Services is a professional, experienced and dedicated team offering a
comprehensive range of ecological and arboricultural consultancy services. All our profits are
donated to our ‘parent’ charity, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, for the benefit of nature conservation
in Norfolk.

Our focus is on providing high quality ecological expertise to ensure our clients’ projects
move forward while ensuring protection and benefits for wildlife.

About the role

The role will undertake the professional delivery and completion of a wide range of ecological
consultancy contracts on behalf of NWS clients, including (but not exclusive to):

  • Protected species surveys
  • Site and habitat surveys and assessments (including BNG)
  • Mitigation strategies for a wide range of habitats and species
  • Conservation management advice (species and habitats)
  • Ecological Clerk of Works on selected projects

In addition, the Senior Ecologist will have line management responsibilities for a small team
of ecologists and will delegate for the Principal Ecologist as needed.

About you

For the role the following skills and experience are considered essential:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in ecology or another relevant subject;
  • Hold or at least be eligible for membership of CIEEM;
  • Previous experience in conservation or with a consultancy business;
  • Experience of undertaking species and habitat surveys and developing management and action
    plans;
  • A flexible approach to work, sound organisational skills and the ability to produce clear
    and concise work to tight deadlines;
  • Good knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation;
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to own transport with business insurance use;
  • The Senior Ecologist will be expected to be a holder of a survey licence in at least one
    protected species and be a named ecologist on mitigation licencing for European protected
    species for either bats (preferable) or great crested newts.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 5pm Sunday 30th June 2024.

Interviews are likely to take place the following week at NWT Head Office at
Bewick House in Norwich.

The successful candidate should be able to commence employment as soon as possible after an
offer of employment is made.
