The Role:
The Senior Ecologist – Habitats will be working within the Knowledge & Evidence (K&E)
team to lead on the delivery of a rolling cycle of reserve habitat monitoring, as a key part of
the implementation of the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s reserve monitoring strategy.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering habitat condition
surveys, Herbivore Impact Assessments, and other surveys as necessary across Scottish Wildlife
Trust reserves. This will involve developing standardised methodologies for assessing the
condition of reserve habitats, analysing habitat condition data and providing recommendations
to inform future management and monitoring.
The post holder will work with the K&E team to ensure good data management, to develop GIS
systems for mapping key reserve habitat data and to produce high quality technical summaries
and reports.
The post allows for hybrid working, with the successful candidate working from a base in
Edinburgh. The post will require considerable travel across Scotland.
You must be qualified to degree level or equivalent in ecology or similar discipline and be
able to demonstrate your achievements and experience in ecological surveying and monitoring
across a range of habitats. A current UK driving licence is essential, as is a willingness to
undertake travel and overnight stays.
