Midlands stretch of HS2 – Britain’s new high speed railway.

Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as
continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us – we’re at
peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges,
tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this
exciting section of HS2 across the region.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Environmental
Advisor
 within the Environmental Team. 

Please note candidates will need to have a current valid right to work in the UK to be
considered for this role

What you’ll be doing

  • Responsible for managing the flow of all the relevant environmental information within
    sub-lots
  • Management of the sublots environmental deliverables review tracker and assets schedule
  • Work closely with the DJV in developing a design that avoids or reduces significant
    environmental impacts based on Environmental Minimum Requirements (EMR) principles
  • Review of relevant incoming documentation and reports, including EMRs to ensure compliance
  • Ensuring consistency across environmental deliverables, utilising relevant technical and
    contract guidance and the support of the discipline leads
  • Provide advice and support for the environmental topic leads and engineering team regarding
    environmental design across the sub-lots (ensuring consistency with Basis of Design, Contract
    Requirements Technical, TS and CoCP)
  • Attend meetings (external and internal) – weekly and monthly on key environmental topics

Contribution of ideas for continuous improvement (making tasks easier, ensuring consistent
approach, identification of environmental constraints/opportunities etc)

Experience Required

  • Degree in an environmental or scientific discipline or relevant career experience
  • Experience as an Environmental Advisor working in relation to construction site activities,
  • Have deputised for when senior members are out of the business 
  • Thorough understanding of EMS including development of documents, procedures and processes
  • Trained and experienced internal ISO 14001 auditor (preferred Lead Auditor) Practioner IEMA
    (or equivalent level of membership with a relevant professional body)
  • Experience of Stakeholder management (Environment Agency/Local Authority)

About Balfour Beatty VINCI

capability across rail, highways and aviation sectors in the UK and beyond. Our work with HS2
Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington
in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire. Overall, we
will be building the following across all our sites:

  • 42 viaducts totalling over 11km
  • 66 overbridges
  • More than 35 cuttings reaching over 30km
  • 56 culverts
  • 66 embankments reaching over 33km
  • Building four motorway crossings requiring box structures
  • Six interfaces with the existing rail requiring both dive-under and overbridge structures
