If strategic communications are your passion, you belong here.Mount Royal University’s President’s Office is looking for a skilled communications strategist to support the Offices of the President and Chancellor. If you are a talented collaborator with exceptional communications skills, we want to meet you.In the role of Senior Executive Communications Strategist, you will bring the ideal mix of strategy and implementation to your work, applying strong judgment and problem solving skills to a wide range of projects, and implementing the best communications to match. You will take both a proactive and responsive approach to the role, anticipating the president’s and chancellor’s communications needs, while responding quickly to urgent and evolving matters.In this position, you will bring the voice, both academic and administrative, of the president and chancellor to internal and external communications, navigating complex and often highly sensitive matters. You will work closely with leaders across the University to anticipate and identify when leadership communications are needed.This position is a full-time permanent role working 35 hours per week. Some flexibility in hours of work may be required on occasion to support the president and chancellor.ResponsibilitiesWrite communications plans, speeches, key messages, remarks, op-eds, columns, blogs, social posts, presentations, web copy, reports, etc.Research and coordinate logistics for speaking engagements for the president and chancellorEnsure prepared messages are coordinated with the central Marketing and Communications team and among internal groupsMaintain a consistent volume of written content across communications channelsCapitalize on MRU’s communications vehicles to share and amplify messagesStay informed of emerging issues and events that may result in necessary communications from the president or chancellorIdentify opportunities for the president and chancellor to participate in strategic events and activities both on campus and in the broader communityAttend meetings of MRU’s governing bodies and participate in committees, task forces and other organized groupsParticipate in crisis communications led by Marketing and CommunicationsQualificationsMaster’s degree in a related field, or equivalent post-graduate studies is preferred; or at minimum a comparable combination of a Bachelor’s degree with sufficient practical experience will be considered.Minimum of six years of increasingly responsible communications experienceA high level of practical skill in writing and general communications practiceExceptional judgment and problem solving skillsProven experience working successfully within a highly collaborative environmentProfessional experience in post-secondary education is also desirable.What We OfferTalented and committed employees are the driving force behind student success.
