- Full time, continuing position offering a base salary of $145,023 – $192,371 p.a. (Level C/D) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunityThe at The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor of Livestock Production with emphasis on ruminants, to enhance its long-term leadership in livestock production research and industry engagement. The University of Sydney has an illustrious 113-year history and significant disciplinary strength in agriculture including animal production (Sheep and Beef Systems; Poultry Research Foundation; Dairy Research Foundation), plant production & breeding (Plant Breeding Institute), digital agriculture (International Centre of Crop and Digital Agriculture), agricultural robotics (Australia Centre for Field Robotics), augmented by world class soil science.The successful applicant will have a thorough understanding of sustainable livestock production systems with a strong focus on ruminants. They will have a track record of success in teaching, research, and publications commensurate with a mid-career scientist on a rising trajectory. A Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor maintains and builds their reputation by actively contributing to research and scholarship, academic debate, policy development and innovation within the University and beyond.Some of your key responsibilities will be to:
- develop and lead a high impact research program in areas of sustainable livestock production to enhance national and international animal production and minimise environmental impact of livestock operations
- contribute to teaching and development of curricula in the animal science units of study as part of the Animal, Veterinary and Bioscience (AVBS) and Agricultural Science degrees, contributing to the school’s outstanding teaching and learning outcomes
- develop and lead large, innovative research programs with strong engagement of external stakeholders and livestock industries
- contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the University by participating in collegial governance and decision-making and fosters a culture of excellence through guiding academic staff and students towards success.

- a PhD or equivalent in livestock production, or other academic field relevant to the discipline of Animal Agriculture and sustainable production systems
- demonstrated knowledge and an experience in one or more of the following areas: Sustainable Livestock production Systems (ruminants), Animal Agriculture, Farming Systems
- a national or international reputation in their discipline or area of expertise, with a supporting research profile including competitive research grants, publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community
- a track record of partnership with livestock industry and industry bodies and funding attraction (Government, Research and Development Corporations; Government, others)
- experience of successful supervision of honours and higher degree research students, including PhD students, either formally or on a day-to-day basis.
- a sustained record of excellence in teaching and learning design and practice, as evidenced through successful student outcomes, demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation.
- a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, school, faculty, and University.
- experience in people leadership within the higher education sector, including demonstrated success in supervising and/or mentoring others towards success
- an understanding of and ability to lead and support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment
- an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector.
- demonstrated understanding and experience of relevant work health and safety and biosecurity issues including laboratory- and field-based work, where relevant.
