Faculty of Environment, Science & EconomyThis full-time role is available from September 2024 on a permanent basis.The roleWe are seeking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer in Computer Science with a particular interest in AI-driven Data Centre Sustainability. Data centres are a growing contributor of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and are enormous energy consumers. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in making data centres more sustainable and reducing carbon footprint. The development of AI technologies can significantly reduce energy consumption, lower operational costs, and contribute to a more sustainable future for next-generation data centres.The post will include:
- Developing and delivering captivating lectures and seminars on topics pertinent to AI-driven data centre sustainability, such as energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, cooling systems optimization, and lifecycle assessment.
- Mentoring and guiding students in research projects aimed at pioneering sustainable solutions for data centres.
- Actively engaging in securing research income through grant applications and industry collaborations, advancing the department’s research agenda in Artificial Intelligence and data centre sustainability.
- Publishing high-quality research findings in reputable journals and conference proceedings, contributing to the academic discourse and driving innovation in sustainable computing.
About youFor a Senior Lecturer post you will have:
- A PhD or equivalent in Computer Science and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research
- Demonstrated expertise in AI-driven data centre sustainability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a genuine passion for teaching and mentorship.
- A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrating potential to attract such funding.
- An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
- Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes
- Strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners
- Involvement in projects which develop impact
- A strong potential for research leadership
- A track record in refereed publications and success in significant grant capture
- Relationships with external organisations and funders/ and knowledge and experience of key sectors or business challenges
