You will be based within the School of Health and Wellbeing, a vibrant multi-disciplinary research-intensive group at the University of Glasgow. Since February 2023 we have been housed in a brand new, state of the art research and teaching facility – the Clarice Pears Building – just off the Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow. We welcome applications from candidates who hold a PhD, Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or equivalent post-graduate qualification in psychology that confers eligibility for chartered status with the British Psychological Society (BPS).Job PurposeTo make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College through leading and contributing to research of international standard, high quality teaching at postgraduate level, securing research funding, and providing academic leadership and management within the School/College. To actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach relevant to the science and practice of clinical psychology and/or mental health science.The post holder will be a key contributor to teaching and associated administration on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology as requested by the Programme Director and Head of Mental Health and Wellbeing (MHW). It is expected that the post holder will contribute leadership in the development, delivery and administration of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme and to lead a programme of research that is compatible with the goals of the DClinPsy and the wider department and school.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Take responsibility for one of the DClinPsy programme director roles and provide strategic leadership for that portfolio.2. Undertake a leading role in the development and implementation of individual and/or joint research projects of international standard, participating actively in the development of College/School research strategy and contributing to knowledge generation on topics relevant to clinical psychology and/or mental health science.3. Act as principal investigator or project leader on major research projects with a portfolio of research activity and publications of high quality and impact.4. Take a lead in major funding bids and related activities, including Knowledge Exchange, which develop and sustain support for the subject area and recognised excellence for the University.5. Undertake academic management and leadership roles and responsibilities to ensure high quality administration of the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology, setting and monitoring standards and lead on the development of policy and practice across research and teaching teams (beyond subject/school level).6. Create and develop effective networks with students, staff across the University, and external stakeholders in the NHS to ensure that the DClinPsy course produces graduates who are highly sought after for employment after completion of the degree.7. Develop and maintain a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies to enhance the delivery, organisation, feedback and assessment on the DClinPsy programme.8. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that recognise the needs of a diverse student cohort, taking appropriate responsibility for managing associated cultural changes and staff support and development.9. Regularly attend and participate in appropriate activities to effectively contribute to the subject specialism, through learned societies, professional bodies (e.g. BPS), broader review and editorial processes. Disseminate research findings locally, nationally and internationally to enhance learning within the discipline and to represent the University externally.10. Establish and maintain networks with external stakeholders and use these relationships to influence public understanding and/or professional policy and practice aligned with the strategic priorities of the School/College/University and the profession of clinical psychology.11. Supervise individual student projects at postgraduate level to ensure their effective development and assisting with difficulties e.g. learning support/problems.12. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.13. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.14. An undergraduate degree in psychology (or equivalent by recognised conversion course) with an honours grade of 2.1 or above.A2. PhD, Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or equivalent post-graduate qualification in psychology that confers eligibility for chartered status with the British Psychological Society (BPS).A3. Extensive and established reputation in research and significant teaching experience within the discipline of clinical psychology.A4. Recognised expertise in clinical psychology to develop new knowledge and understanding within the field.A5. A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management at School/Service/College level or equivalent experience obtained in applied settings (e.g. the NHS).A6. Knowledge of issues relevant to the current practice and of clinical psychology in the UK.A7. Engagement with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies, aims and ambitions.A8. Membership of a relevant professional body such as the BPS, ACP-UK (or eligibility for membership).SkillsEssentialC1. Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of major research and teaching activities.C2. Ability to disseminate complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.C3. Substantial track record of published research of international standard compatible with enhancing the School’s submission to the REF and/or other indicators of advanced expertise in applied clinical psychology.E2. Established track record of applying for and/or successfully securing funding for research projects, as appropriate for the subject specialism.E3. Internationally recognised excellence and reputation in clinical psychology practice and/or scholarship of teaching in the applied practice.E4. Proven track record of developing and devising teaching programmes, techniques and methods.E5. Track record of student supervision and development/mentorship/coaching of early career academic colleagues in the field of clinical psychology.E6. Demonstrated commitment to open research practices and practices that support replication.E7. Proven commitment to supporting the career development of colleagues and to other forms of collegiality appropriate to the career stage.Terms and ConditionsSalary will be Grade 9, £58,596 – £65,814 per annum.A market supplement may be added for eligible candidates such as Clinical Psychologists moving from AfC pay scales in the NHS with appropriate experience.This post is full time and open-ended.Informal Enquires should be directed to Professor Hamish J.
