SBU/Department: School of Life and Medical Sciences/Centre Postgraduate Medicine and Public HealthFTE: 0.4FTE (working 14.8 hours per week)Duration of Contract: PermanentSalary: UH8 £44,263 pro rata pa to £56,021 pro rata pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experienceAnnual Leave: 35 day pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our officer between Christmas and New YearLocation: College Lane Campus, HatfieldWe are looking for an individual with special interest in dermatology and/or skin lesion management, committed to excellence in teaching and enhancing patient care, to join our multidisciplinary team of motivated and friendly staff in our Centre for Postgraduate Medicine and Public Health.Main duties and responsibilitiesYou will undertake teaching, learning and assessment, including module leadership within our dermatology and/or skin lesion management short courses and programmes. You will design engaging teaching activities which support student learning, set and mark formative and summative assessments which support student learning whilst providing constructive student feedback and evaluation, act as a project supervisor commensurate with your qualifications, and provide academic and pastoral support to students as a personal tutor. You will identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and design, you will develop new teaching materials to ensure the curriculum maintains currency, particularly regarding clinical issues, and you will contribute to the planning, design and development of aims, objectives and learning outcomes on appropriate programmes. Although the post is a teaching-focused position, maintenance of scholarly and/or research activity is strongly encouraged and supported.Skills and experience requiredYou will need to have substantial proven post-qualifying clinical experience in dermatology and/or skin cancer with evidence of current clinical practice which must include dermatology and/or skin cancer. You will have experience of collaborative working in multidisciplinary settings such as community, hospital or primary care, and have experience of public speaking and/or teaching and/or running courses.You must possess breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in dermatology and/or skin lesions and skin cancer to develop teaching and have knowledge and understanding of UK national guidance in relation to dermatology and/or skin lesions and skin cancer. An appreciation and understanding of the educational needs of students, an understanding of students’ prior learning experiences and how these might influence their current educational expectations, cultural awareness, and an ability to contribute to curriculum development are essential for this role. You must have a proven ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a variety of audiences, a proficiency in English Language, excellent written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills with ability to create excellent working relationships, and an ability to communicate effectively, clearly and supportively with both students and academic colleagues.You will possess ability to deal with conflicting demands and priorities to meet deadlines, ability to work effectively on your own initiative and as part of a team, excellent organisational and planning skills, and excellent IT skills. You must be able to act as a responsible team member and develop productive working relationships with other members of staff, be flexible and adaptable to workload and team requirements, possess a commitment to reflective practice with evidence of Continuing Professional Development, and a commitment to issues related to equality, diversity and inclusion.Qualifications requiredIn order to be considered for this position you must hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in a relevant discipline and a postgraduate qualification i.e., Masters and/or PhD (completed or close to completion, e.g. has submitted final thesis) in Dermatology and/or Skin Lesion Management or significant experience, or an appropriate qualification at first degree.
