Senior Marine Ecologist/Project Manager

Lead a nationally significant marine research programme and help protect one of the world’s least explored marine environments.

Join SAERI to lead an exciting project funded by the UK Government through Darwin Plus, mapping and protecting one of the world’s least explored marine environments. You’ll lead field surveys, develop habitat maps, and help shape the future management of the Falkland Islands Marine Managed Areas.

Location: Falkland Islands
Salary: £42,092
Contract: 2 years & 3 months (Fixed Term)

We’re looking for

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in Marine Ecology, Marine Biology, Oceanography or a related discipline
  • Experience leading marine field programmes
  • Strong GIS and ecological data analysis skills
  • Excellent project management and communication skills

What you will do

  • Lead multibeam echosounder, backscatter and benthic habitat surveys
  • Develop habitat maps and predictive habitat models
  • Produce the Environmental Baseline Description
  • Organise workshops to develop Research and Monitoring Plans
