UNOPS hosts Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Secretariat/Programme in Vienna, Austria. Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) is an independent organization with a global mandate to accelerate progress on the energy transition in emerging and developing countries. We work at the intersection of energy, climate, and development. Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched the Sustainable Energy for All initiative in 2011. Since then, our CEO has served as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All and Co-Chair of UN-Energy.
This position is located within the International Engagements team. The main objectives of International Engagements programme are:
SEforALL’s long-term strategy to accelerate progress on closing the energy access gap by 2030 and enabling the just and equitable energy transition by 2050 requires:
Building international ambition through energy diplomacy, strategic communications and mobilizing global coalitions to finance and deliver energy access solutions and a just and equitable energy transition in emerging markets to achieve SDGs 7 and 13, in order to significantly reduce carbon emissions, provide jobs and improve livelihoods.
Supporting national action in target countries by ensuring they have the knowledge, tools and resources to design and implement more effective interventions, focusing on driving innovation and promoting best practices, particularly as it relates to data, policy, finance, and business models.
Demonstrating the effectiveness of national-scale transformational energy access and transition programs and the replicability and impact of such programs.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Support regional stakeholder coordination and engagement including with ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Centre for Energy.
- Support project implementation and management for energy transition roadmap and green value chain development.
- Facilitate coordination across various programmatic workstreams internally with SEforALL technical experts and UN agencies in Southeast Asia.
- Coordinate project activities in alignment with scheduled ASEAN regional meetings for energy, minerals and post-2025 economic community policy dialogue.
- Facilitate data collection across Southeast Asian jurisdictions for project reports and policy analysis.
- Facilitate monitoring of project implementation deliverables for quarterly reporting.
- Support organization of regional meeting and workshops.
- Support in drafting of reports, briefing notes and analysis.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education
- An Advanced Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in energy, environmental studies, engineering, economics, international relations, business administration or a related field is required. A First Level University (Bachelor’s) degree in combination with an additional two (2) years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience:
- A Minimum of two (2) years of experience in energy transition and the region’s green economy priorities in Southeast Asia is required.
- Experience in the ASEAN policy environment is desirable.
- Experience in liaising with government officials, private sector, donors and other stakeholders is desirable.
Language:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Working knowledge of another, official UN language is an asset.
- Proficiency in a Southeast Asian language is desirable.
