You will provide facilities and lab management including building operations, health & safety activities, general/reactive maintenance and contractor management. This is a hands-on, on-site role that requires significant organisation, and the ability to work and manage diverse internal and external stakeholders to deliver a workplace that provides a safe and effective environment for our team.You will be someone who develops and implements processes, solves problems at pace and remains calm whilst under pressure. We want someone who builds relationships quickly and prides themselves on providing a great service to the business. You will have a detailed understanding of working in a laboratory environment and the biotechnology sector.This role offers a highly competitive salary, discretionary annual bonus, company pension scheme and access to a comprehensive benefits package.Requirements:
- Manage the lab and office facilities at Granta Park, Cambridge to provide a safe and effective environment for all staff, contractors and visitors
- Liaise with the landlords and oversee our contractors to ensure all aspects of our facilities are maintained to a high standard.
- Provide robust and effective oversight of the planning and execution of equipment service contracts, including development of service specifications and performance management of contracts and contractors.
- Lead to resolution any issues affecting normal function of laboratory equipment.
- Working with the Contracts Manager, coordinate facilities management contracts, reviews, and negotiations
- Promote a proactive culture, seek continual improvement, maintain systems and services to a high standard.
- Act as site Health & Safety Officer, ensure audits are conducted in line with statutory requirements, ensure all employees are trained effectively and appropriately and manage expectations with leadership and stakeholders
- Lead the procurement and management of laboratory consumables across the organisation to ensure the efficient flow of stock to support delivery of the R&D pipeline.
- Oversee delivery of IT capabilities through IT contractors to ensure the organisation has fit for purpose equipment which effectively supports the delivery of our R&D pipeline.
Essential:
- Extensive experience of facilities and lab management and coordination in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
- Have a certified Health & Safety Qualification: IOSH or NEBOSH or similar training or experience
- Significant experience of managing Health and Safety within biotech; demonstrating a strong understanding of employer obligations and UK legislation
- Experience in managing maintenance services, coordinating building projects and landlord relationships
- Good understanding of IT
- Working knowledge of equipment calibration and maintenance, including commissioning, test standards, troubleshooting and repairs.
- Be comfortable with being hands on (this is a standalone role, there is no facilities team)
- A flexible ‘can do’ nature with the ability to manage stakeholders at all levels and remain calm under pressure
- Ability to prioritise workload, handle multiple requests/variable topics/projects throughout the day with ease
- Passionate about delivery of great facilities management
- Must be available for out of hours working or call-outs
- Possess strong influencing and negotiating skills
- Have an emphatic nature, are self-aware and confident
- Must be comfortable with this role being active and lifting items where necessary
