Our private ownership provides long-term business planning and strategic decision horizons supported by a strong financial position.Job DescriptionWe are currently seeking a qualified Senior Piping Design Lead to join our Energy team, based out of Edmonton, AB. The Sr. Piping Design Lead will supervise the operations and daily activities of the project design team consisting of piping designers, materials control, and stress engineering team members within the Plant Layout and Piping discipline. Monitors the work produced for compliance with applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, constructability, and quality standards. Determines staffing needs, schedules resources to meet project requirements, and reports progress to the project management team.in this full time permanent role and be a champion ofDuties & Responsibilities:
- Administers and directs the work of designers, drafters, stress engineering, and material control specialists, either directly or through senior design team supervisors, and assigns lead roles within the project work structure.
- Makes decisions concerning day-to-day activities that frequently involve planning following project procedures and requirements.
- Plans and delegates assigned work and staffs accordingly to meet project milestones and schedule dates.
- Hosts and records comments during detailed model reviews with project team members, clients, construction, and project stakeholders.
- Supervises preparation of assigned material requisitions, bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
- Monitors work for compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design, reliable plant maintenance/operation, and effective fabrication of deliverables, including defining and scheduling project technical reviews.
- Prepares design and work instructions/procedures to standardize the design effort for the project assigned and ensures client requirements for deliverables are understood and accommodated.
- Coordinates and participates in jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems, interpret drawings and documents, and validate as-built information to support design efforts.
- Establishes and maintains communication with client representatives, project engineers, engineering supervisors in charge of related disciplines, and administrative personnel within the project.
- Manages and responds to questions from client representatives, equipment suppliers, and construction representatives on technical and administrative topics.
- Identifies, reviews, defines and quantifies engineering scope changes, as required, for project management.
- Endorses or prepares reports, as required, of work progress for project and discipline use.
- Ensures discipline engineering instructions and work instructions are being adhered to, providing opportunities for improvement to the Plant Layout and Piping Discipline Chief as required to ensure efficiency.
- Maintains up-to-date skills in standard computer applications to ensure design and data is of the highest quality.
- Organizes and directs the implementation of job and skill training of assigned personnel.
- Evaluates the performance of assigned personnel and provides coaching and mentorship.
- Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and quality.
- Provides operational supervision and technical guidance to assigned personnel.
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A recognized diploma or degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited technical college or university, OR
- Specialized courses in relevant design and drafting or an appropriate engineering discipline, OR
- Work experience in process piping design, engineering, science, or other relevant types of engineering.
Skills/ Job Knowledge/ Experience:
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge and experience in the application of 2D/3D design software tools (AutoCAD, Microstation, S3D, AutoPLANT, CADWorx, Plant 3D, and other specialty software)
- Expert knowledge and experience in the application of 3D visualization software tools (Navisworks, SmartPlant Review, and other specialty software)
- Expert Knowledge of applicable Engineering Instructions, Guides, Standards, and Specifications
- Knowledge of equipment and specialty piping systems, including the operation and maintenance requirements of operating plants
- Knowledge of piping materials and components
- Sound knowledge of Plant Layout & Piping work practices and standards, and interfaces with other engineering disciplines
- Knowledge of applicable Engineering Instructions, Guides, Standards, Specifications, codes, and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups and disciplines associated with the total design effort
- Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced design team members
- Expert knowledge of fabrication, construction, modularization, and transportation requirements
- Ability to plan work to meet schedule dates, communicate change, and manage team dynamics
