This is a special measure employment equity initiative and candidates from this group who wish to qualify for preferential consideration must self-identify.Job DescriptionReporting to the Director, Fixed Income Investments, the Senior Portfolio Manager will be actively involved with credit risk management for the corporate bond portfolios of the pension plan. This senior investment role will provide lead coverage for credit approvals, monitoring and recommendations for purchase and sale opportunities. Preparation of internal reports and monitoring documents will be required.Job Responsibilities1. Proactively identify and screen public fixed income opportunities to build and manage a portfolio of investment grade investments. Review company financial statements, investment research reports, business models, management teams and security structures as a basis for recommendations.2. Remain current with respect to opportunities, ideas and trends covering corporate credit of individual corporate names and sector components. Maintain a strong market awareness of the stage of market cycle and sector timing elements leading to market opportunities.3. Conduct comprehensive due diligence on public fixed income corporate names including detailed financial analysis and risk / return recommendations. Build, maintain and update detailed credit research documentation for approved credit names and monitor situations.4. Assess and review infrastructure transactions for identification of material risk components and return considerations.5. Prepare pension plan fixed income investment reports and presentations for the CPC pension committee and other committees. Attends and presents at these committee meetings as required.Job Responsibilities (continued)6. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with senior management of public corporations, rating agency personnel and investment dealers.7. Review and track credit performance of name and sector recommendations. Utilise portfolio systems such as Bloomberg, Statpro and other investment systems as required.8. Assess corporate structures, public disclosure documents and business models for investment recommendations. Review detailed disclosures on structured products, asset backed securities and other related structures for risk assessment and return considerations.9. Maintains a network of internal and external contacts to regularly benchmark and remain current on future trends and developments related to government standards, industry practices, legislation, guidelines, new technologies, and programs related to CPC’s responsibility in managing its own pension fund.QualificationsEducation
- University degree, preferably in Business or Finance; one or more of the following is an asset: MBA, CFA or CA.
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years experience in either one or a combination of the following fields: investment research, buy or sell side experience, rating agency experience or private and public infrastructure experience.
- 3 or more years’ direct investing experience in credit markets, specifically investment grade bonds.
Other Candidate Requirements
- Well-developed Excel skills, including financial modeling, discounted cash flow analysis, comparable company analysis, IRR performance calculations and benchmarking analysis.
- Proficiency in Bloomberg.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated track record of professional success.
