Oracle
Job Description
WHO ARE WE?
We’re the Technical Architecture group, and we’re defining Oracle’s next generation application architecture based on cloud-native principles. We’re building new shared microservices for data access, messaging, security, job scheduling, workflow management, user interface management, and more. Our shared services, built on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), provide the platform on which Fusion Applications will move into a cloud-native future.
We are a globally distributed organization. We follow a DevOps model where teams own their services from design through delivery and production operations, providing each service team with significant autonomy and significant responsibility for Oracle’s continued success. This is a critical initiative at Oracle that is highly visible to and strongly supported by executive management, and we might just be looking for you to lead our UI Infrastructure Services project.
WHAT IS THE PROJECT?
The UI Infrastructure Services project is a set of microservices that enables configuration, customization, deployment, hosting, and lifecycle management for UIs generated by Oracle Visual Builder, Oracle APEX, and other potential UI platforms in the future. In addition to its role in the production deployment of Oracle user interfaces, UI Infrastructure Services will become a key component of the internal development environment at Oracle. Your work will play a significant role in improving the developer experience and development efficiency for thousands of enterprise software developers at Oracle.
WHO ARE YOU?
You’re an experienced product leader with a passion for solving complex problems. You dig into the details to understand the why and the how, not just the what.
You understand the issues involved in UI development, deployment, customization, and lifecycle management. You may have experience in the front-end-as-a-service industry or in low-code UI development and hosting, or in content management or web hosting. Whatever your background, you know what it takes to deploy, manage, and evolve UIs at scale in world where your customers routinely extend and customize those UIs.
You’re comfortable at the intersection of technology and product. You enjoy engaging with technical teams as much as with business teams and you’re not afraid to ask questions and challenge both business and technical assumptions when necessary.
You understand cloud-native principles and you know how to design and deliver cloud-native software and APIs through the entire software development lifecycle.
You look for the problem behind the problem and strive to create solutions that are broader than the immediate requirements. You build platforms for the future. You see both the forest and the trees, and you’re skilled at balancing the short term needs against the long term vision. You can be fiercely pragmatic when necessary, but not at the expense of correctness or usability. You have a relentless focus on quality.
You’re comfortable working with local and remote colleagues across geographies and time zones. You’re energized by sharing ideas and understanding the big picture, and you provide and accept feedback gracefully. You know when to lead and when to step back and let your team drive a decision.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As the Senior Principle Technical Product Manager for Messaging, you will lead a distributed development team to design, test, deliver, and operate the UI Infrastructure Service components of the Oracle application platform. You will own the features, roadmap, and schedule for this service. You’ll represent the interests of both internal Oracle application development teams building UIs with Oracle Visual Builder and Apex, and Oracle customers extending and customizing these UIs.
You’ll work cross-functionally with Oracle development teams, program management, other product managers, and our developer enablement team to ensure that your service meets the needs of Oracle application teams and customers, that it is delivered and operates with outstanding performance and reliability at enterprise scale, that it fits seamlessly with other shared services developed by our organization, and that teams apply best practices and follow sound architectural principles when adopting it.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
6 to 10+ years of product management experience, including experience in UI development, deployment, hosting, customization, and lifecycle management.
-
Demonstrated ability to absorb, understand, and apply complex technical details in your product planning, and the ability to speak with authority about both technical and business requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate ideas at multiple levels from executive summaries to the nitty gritty details.
-
Experience delivering critical systems that operate at high scale, high reliability, and low latency.
-
Experience delivering platforms, APIs, microservices, and/or developer-oriented systems.
Career Level – IC5
Responsibilities
You’ll play a pivotal role in creating the strategic vision and ensuring the successful execution of the UI Infrastructure service, but you will also be part of a team delivering services that comprise an overall applications platform for Oracle.
You will work with your team to develop the feature set and roadmap for this service and will evangelize it to Oracle application development teams, driving adoption as applications build new UIs using Visual Builder and Apex.
On a day-to-day basis you will:
-
Work with senior management, other product managers, and developers to shape the overall vision for cloud-native shared services and for the UI Infrastructure service in particular.
-
Work with application development teams across Oracle to understand their requirements, gaining expertise in Oracle applications and customer needs along the way.
-
Use what you learn to develop and evangelize a vision for your service, and to manage a product roadmap and backlog that effectively balances short term needs with long term strategy.
-
Develop themes, epics, and stories to document functional requirements, performance requirements, operational requirements, and quality requirements for the service.
-
Work with agile development teams to develop, deliver, monitor, and continuously improve the service.
-
Collaborate with application development teams and other members of the Technical Architecture group to develop effective and innovative solutions to customer needs, and to ensure that applications are using our services in the most appropriate ways.
-
Document and explain recommended patterns, best practices, and anti-patterns.
-
Present your plans and your results to senior management and to other groups within Oracle.
