Join The Native Antigen Company as a Senior Production Scientist II – Bioreactor Specialist, where you’ll play a pivotal role in scaling up processes and delivering recombinant protein products in a world-class production setting.About the RoleAs a Senior Production Scientist II – Bioreactor Specialist, you will be a key contributor to our Production Team, operating at the critical intersection of R&D and Operations. Your expertise in stirred tank bioreactors and cell culture will be instrumental in scaling up our mammalian and bacterial cell culture methods to produce recombinant proteins for global customers. This role requires a strategic mindset, hands-on technical proficiency, and an ability to thrive in an ISO9001:2015-certified environment.Your primary focus will be on HEK293 suspension cell culture, leveraging its potential to produce recombinant proteins of interest. You’ll also support bacterial cell culture and the culture of other eukaryotic suspension cell lines as needed. Once scaled-up processes are validated, you will lead the manufacturing operations, ensuring products are delivered to customers on time and to the highest quality standards.Bioreactor Operations:

  • Operate and maintain single-use stirred-tank bioreactors with working volumes between 3L and 40L.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize bioreactor performance to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and operational protocols during bioreactor handling.

Protocol Development:

  • Develop and refine protocols for fed-batch culture processes, focusing on scalability and reproducibility.
  • Analyze process data to identify areas for improvement in reactor performance and yield.

Cell Culture Expertise:

  • Work with HEK293 suspension cells and stable cell lines to support upstream process development (desirable but not essential).
  • Optimize culture conditions to achieve high cell viability and productivity.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect, document, and analyze process data to evaluate bioreactor performance and process efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing experimental findings and recommendations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with our research, development, downstream processing and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of bioreactor systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior team members, as needed.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in bioreactor technology and cell culture techniques.
  • Contribute to process innovation and the adoption of new technologies.

Qualifications

  • Essential:
  • Proven experience working with single-use stirred-tank bioreactors up to 40L of working volume.
  • Strong background in developing and optimizing fed-batch culture protocols.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on bioprocess optimization.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven record of working across teams within an organization
  • Desirable:
  • Hands-on experience with HEK293 suspension cells and stable cell lines.
  • Familiarity with cell biology, molecular biology, or biopharmaceutical production processes.
  • Knowledge of process control systems and bioreactor software platforms.
  • Experience in managing a small team of scientists
  • Other Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD or equivalent experience in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
