If you believe your skills are transferable and meet most of the position expectations, we encourage you to apply.Position SummaryThe Senior Program Specialist reports to the Executive Director and is focused on managing programs that create and transform knowledge of the diversity and wellbeing of families in Canada. They build and maintain relationships with research partners, academia, government officials at national and regional levels, and other key stakeholders. Working with the Executive Director, the Senior Program Specialist raises the Institute’s profile in the community through media engagement, partnerships, program participation, and knowledge mobilization. The Program Specialist applies their experience in program management in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs that align with our strategic plan and support our .Key Responsibilities

  • Builds, nurtures, and maintains relationships with organizations and stakeholder representatives from government, academia (in particular, the family studies research community), Vanier Institute Affiliates network, family service providers, and the not-for-profit sector.
  • Keeps informed of current research findings and activates information.
  • Represents the Institute in meetings about projects and programs with subject matter experts, specialist consultants, stakeholders, and advisors.
  • Manages collaborative partnerships, including program coordination, knowledge transfer and exchange, and our funding programs to ensure value, and collaborates with the Director, Corporate Services, to monitor and comply with the Institute’s contractual obligations and commitments.
  • Leads the Affiliates Network, including planning and facilitating meetings and events, and other opportunities to engage their expertise.
  • Oversees the Vanier Institute’s portfolio of awards.
  • Collaborates with the Communications team to identify issues pertaining to families that are of interest to policymakers, the media, and Canadian society.
  • Drafts speaking notes, briefing notes, correspondence, and other communication products related to the Vanier Institute’s programs for the Executive Director, other staff, Board volunteers, and Affiliates as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • A graduate degree in Family Science or a relevant field (PhD preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and life experience.
  • Five to nine years of experience, preferably in a not-for-profit or charitable organization, working at a professional level with researchers, government, or service organizations with a family-related mandate.
  • Demonstrated capability to produce content for a variety of stakeholder audiences.
  • Experience mobilizing research findings in accessible formats.
  • Track record of establishing strong and trusted relationships with colleagues and external partners.
  • Willingness to continuously develop skills and knowledge.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills (English), including an ability to present to the media and other constituency groups.
  • Ability to hold work-related conversations in French and/or a willingness to learn conversational French.
  • A strong commitment to advancing equity, accessibility, and inclusivity, both internally and in the way programs and activities are designed and led.

Terms of EmploymentFull-time, permanent.Compensation: $88,980 to $113,020Location: Ottawa is preferred, remote work may be a possibility. Vanier Institute policies permit up to 40% work from home for employees in the National Capital Region.Vacation and leave: Entitlement starts at 4 weeks per year.
