About the Role

The role requires working at a senior level within the organisation, for example with the Vice Principals for Policy & Strategic Partnerships and International, External Relations, Estates & Facilities Management (EAF) and Information Technology Services (ITS).  The role provides governance and oversight of Project Managers within ITS and EAF involved in the External and International Engamement strategic projects. This role is part of the SDO team, initially aligned to External & International Engagement, but with the capacity to work in other areas as needed in future.

About You

The postholder of this role will initially be assigned to External & International Engagement within the University. 

This role may also be required to assist, guide and mentor Senior Managers to co-ordinate their own departments projects by providing subject matter expertise including risk, issue and change management, financial tracking, planning, reporting and governance as required.

The postholder will need to utilise full Project Management capabilities including, but not limited to:

  • Producing business cases
  • Monitoring project spend ensuring it is in line with original budgets
  • Managing the rollouts of solutions
  • Work with 3rd party suppliers to deliver elements of the solution, as needed
  • Providing detailed timelines of activities using appropriate planning tools, as needed
  • Identifying and mitigating/resolving risks/issues as appropriate
  • Managing any changes to time, cost, scope, or quality of the projects
  • Providing regular management reports on progress and highlighting key risks/issues or changes
  • Working with the Communications and Marketing teams as needed
  • Identifying and monitoring benefit realisation during the projects, as appropriate

Proven Project Management experience at a senior level is essential, but experience in a non-HE sector will be considered. 

About the Department

The Strategy Delivery team is part of the QMUL Professional Services function, and its primary purpose is to maintain the process and reporting standards for programme and project management for strategic projects. It will introduce, standardise, and enhance economies of repetition in the execution of projects ensuring consistent delivery quality.

The University has published its 2030 Strategy and this role is key in reporting and assisting with a timely delivery of these important initiatives in a controlled manner to defined time, cost, and quality.

The post is based at the Dept W on Mile End Road in London. It is a full time, fixed term appointment for 12 months and is available as a result of maternity cover. The starting salary will be Grade 7, in the range of £60,128 – £67,139 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

A temporary market supplement is attached to this post, which is a separate payment in addition to the normal salary. A review of market conditions will be carried out periodically to establish if the market supplement should continue.
