Senior Research Assistant with Maternal and Child Nutrition under the Nutrition Research Division (Adv#157/2023)

icddr,b is a Bangladesh-based international health research institute that strives to solve key public health problems through high-quality scientific research and innovation. As a value-based organization, icddrb encourages women and people with disabilities.

Post-hospital discharge mortality risk is high among acutely ill undernourished young children in many low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Qualitative and quantitative studies conducted in LMICs settings, including Bangladesh highlighted that challenges for these children are related to intersecting vulnerabilities at individual, household and facility levels, in turn shaped by deeper structural drivers such as high levels of poverty, inadequately resourced health systems, maternal employment income and mental health, and gender inequities. These previous studies suggested a range of potential interventions to support mothers as they navigate their way through children’s illnesses and recovery. These interventions have potential to improve communication and linkages between mothers and health workers, and to positively impact children’s outcomes and strengthen gender equity within families and communities. Study team will make suggestions for intervention refinement, implementation and evaluation through contributing to design of theories of change for the most promising interventions (and potential unintended consequences) to be refined and checked with stakeholders internationally, and in Bangladesh.
