DepartmentThe Centre for Blood Research (CBR) at York is at the forefront of a unique opportunity to have real-life impact on haematological malignancies. As part of the York Biomedical Research Institute, the strategy is built around maintaining our research activities in discovery-based science and clinical epidemiology, whilst growing capabilities in translational research using primary human samples and integrating more closely with clinical partners. The Fielding research group relocated to University of York in 2023 to join the Centre for Blood Research (CBR) of which Professor Ian Hitchcock is the Director and Professor Fielding the Clinical Director. The Fielding group focuses on acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in adults and carries out a range of activities from fundamental studies on the cellular bone marrow microenvironment through translational work involving patient specimens to supporting clinical trials with central laboratory and biobanking functions.RoleTo devise, direct and develop research projects in blood cancers with a goal of generating significant external research funding.To lead or co-lead research projects and teams which may be drawn from several disciplines and located in several geographic regions or countries.To publish high impact research in quality journals.To oversee the biobanking activities of the UK Adult ALL Research Network including the managing the specimens from the UKALL14 and 60+ biobank to oversee the new sample collection from the UKALL15 trial and to ensure that all the work is HTA compliant.To offer technical training and support to wider collaborative network within Experimental Biomedicine and the Centre for Blood Research in particular to work with and train clinician scientists.To carry out management and administrative tasks associated with specified research funding, including leading and developing staff within their projects; managing the financial and physical resources of research activities; risk assessment of project activities; organisation of project meetings and documentation; preparation of annual reports.To contribute, as required, to the teaching and administrative activities of the Department including the supervision of research students.Skills, Experience & Qualification neededEssential:PhD in molecular and cellular biologyWell-established national and international reputation in blood cancer researchProven ability to work with clinicians and NHS units across the UK and internationally in delivering translational outcomes from clinical trials including biobankingProven ability to train and lead a research lab team on a day to day basisInterview date: To be confirmed.For informal enquiries: please contact Adele Fielding adele.fielding@york.ac.ukThe University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University.We also encourage applications from women for senior roles.We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff.
