About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Research Fellow to join the Centre for Health Policy and contribute to cutting-edge research in health economics and health services. As part of a cross-disciplinary team led by Professor Adam Elshaug and Professor Nancy Baxter, you will have the chance to collaborate with key stakeholders, including government departments and insurers, to address crucial issues such as measuring and reducing waste in healthcare and analyzing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health service utilisation. This role offers a unique chance to apply innovative methods, work on independent research questions, and contribute to the development of value-based healthcare solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct data analytics for research projects independently, developing methods and applications.
  • Produce innovative data visualizations and collaborate with stakeholders to co-design research questions.
  • Publish high-quality research outputs, develop grant applications, and provide supervision and mentoring to students and researchers.
  • Respond to enquiries from external stakeholders, co-investigators, and collaborators.

Who We Are Looking For

You are a collaborative team player, driven to achieve project goals and meet deadlines within a research team. You have a proven track record in leading and contributing to publications, reports, presentations, and grant applications. With strong creativity and problem-solving skills, you can work semi-independently, and you have experience attracting competitive research funding and supervising research candidates.

You will also have:

  • A PhD or similar degree in relevant health or related discipline: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Psychology, Health Economics, Mathematics or other quantitative discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis of routinely collected and/or longitudinal survey data using statistic packages such as SAS, STATA, R, MLwiN, SPSS, SQL
  • A moderate-high level understanding of the Australian healthcare system
  • Experience analyzing large Australian population-based health administrative databases, including state-based inpatient datasets (e.g., VAED, APDC), with expertise in conducting relevant analyses.
  • Experience in managing large datasets, including ethics clearance processes, and knowledge of data integrity, quality and completeness
