Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow in Health Economics/Decision ScienceResearch & Teaching (Research Only)College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences School of Health and Wellbeing (Public Health)GRADE 8 or GRADE 9Job PurposeTo make a leading contribution within the area of Health Economics and Decision Science. The successful candidate will be required to make a leading contribution to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as make a significant contribution to the management and direction of this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. Play a leading role in the management and development of a programme of research focused on health economic evaluation of new diagnostic tools for tuberculosis based on artificial intelligence imaging, working independently and establishing and maintaining external both nationally and internationally.2. Play a leading role in the planning, design and conduct of research, individually or jointly, in accordance with the project deliverables around the discipline of health economics participating actively in the development of College/School/University research strategy.3. Establish and maintain an extensive research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow/ School/ Research Group, sustaining a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed publications, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.4. Play a leading role in the presentation of research findings at high profile national and international conferences, seminars and meetings to enhance the research profile of the project/Institute/College/University.5. Lead the development, both independently and in collaboration with others (including stakeholders) of the identification of potential major funding sources and lead in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research of international quality.6. Take a leading role in developing and maintaining collaborations with colleagues across the subject area/related activities and in the broader Institute/College/University and wider community (e.g. academic and other collaborators/partners).7. Play a leading role in the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.8. Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including Budgets/Expenditure.9. Supervise individual student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level to ensure their effective development and assisting with difficulties (e.g., learning support/problems).10. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline in order to provide advice and guidance to students and less experienced colleagues.11. Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.13. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing the World.For Appointment at Grade 9:14. Perform the above duties with a higher degree of leading independence, effective leadership and responsibility particularly in relation to leading the successful delivery of research activities, development, funding, national/international collaborations involving multi-disciplinary links and innovation.15. A sustained track record of high level of research output in leading international publications and presentations at national and international conferences, enhancing the reputation of College/School/University.16. Contribute specialist lecturers and seminars to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the relevant subject area, in accordance with the School and College programme.17. Develop a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies across the Subject/School and College to support and enhance course/programme delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment within campus based, blended and online provision.18. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that recognise the needs of a diverse student cohort, taking appropriate responsibility for managing associated cultural changes and staff support and development.19. Where appropriate, seek out and deliver knowledge exchange opportunities aligned with the research programme and school objectives.These tasks are not intended to be exhaustive but simply highlight a number of major tasks which the individual may reasonably be expected to perform.Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge & QualificationsEssential:A1. Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in health economics.A2. A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the wider subject area or subject specialism.A3. Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge in areas relevant to the field of researchA4. Knowledge of project-specific technical models, equipment or techniques.SkillsEssential:C1. Proven ability to plan and lead projects and efficiently deploy resources in support of major research and teaching activities.C2. Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide range of audiences to promote understanding.C3. Ability to forge new and effective relationships with colleagues, internally and externally, to foster collaboration across the University and with colleagues within other institutions.For appointment at Grade 9:C4. Proven ability to develop and lead an internationally significant research programme.C5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written) in an appropriate range of contexts.C6. Ability to write concise technical reports.C7. Ability to write effective grant applications in order to generate original research to secure and obtain independent grants.ExperienceEssential:E1. An established track record of presentation and publication of research results in quality publications and/or at conferences.E2. Sufficient depth of research experience, normally including sufficient postdoctoral experience in a related field, appropriate to an early career researcher.E3. Substantial relevant research experience in a related field.E4. Experience of delivering quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.E5. An established national/international profileE6. Proven track record of developing and devising teaching programmes, techniques and methods.E7. Track record of student supervision and development/mentorship/coaching of early career academic colleagues in subject area/team.E8. Demonstrated commitment to open research, as appropriate to the discipline, through open data, open code, open educational resources and practices that support replication.E9. Proven commitment to supporting career development of colleagues and to other forms of collegiality appropriate to the career stage.For appointment at Grade 9:E10. An established leading national reputation in, and insight into, an internationally competitive research area.E11. Established track record of published research with high impact or industrial equivalent.E12. Established track record and ability to secure research grant funding, lead a research team and develop international research profile.E13. Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of leading and supporting at a senior level and demonstrated ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team.E14. Experience of independence as illustrated by identification of project objectives from assessment of literature, design and analysis of research data and drafting of papers.Terms and ConditionsSalary will be Grade 8/9, £49,250 – £56,921/£58,596 – £65,814 per annum.This post is full time, and has funding until 30 October 2029.The University of Glasgow has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
