MED104925INTERNAL VACANCYThis vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.Applications are invited for the above role to provide technical support to 2 busy research areas within The School of Life Sciences, they are Drosophila research and Flow Cytometry.Within Drosophila research the role is to support 4 research groups with the monitoring and assisting in fly husbandry, organising the rotation of fly flipping, alongside maintaining a schedule of all stocks to ensure all lines remain in a healthy state.Within the Flow Cytometry research area the role is required to perform cell sorting, data acquisition and analysis for users, the role will be required to utilise previous knowledge and experience to interpret the requirements of researchers.The role holder will practically contribute to ongoing activities in the areas of mammalian cell culture, microscopy, dissecting, fixing and staining, and flow cytometry. Where required the role holder will assist in the interpretation of results.The role will be required to provide lab inductions for new starters and to ensure all local users adhere to Health and Safety guidelines and practices.The successful candidate will work with both academic and technical staff, have responsibilities including the planning and running of day-to-day requirements and in ensuring all purchasing, servicing and equipment repairs are coordinated and managed efficiently.We are seeking candidates that adopt a methodical approach to working to achieve work deadlines, have good communication skills, have knowledge of IT skills including ability to learn new software packages and experience in making large batch fly food.The post is offered on a permanent, full time contract (36.25 hours).
