Part of R&D, Large Molecule Discovery is accountable for the discovery of antibodies and other protein-based therapeutics. We work across different therapeutic areas from oncology to autoimmunity and infectious diseases, harnessing cutting edge design and engineering technology. Within Large Molecule Discovery, the Developability team assesses our lead molecules using a range of biophysical methods to determine their physical characteristics and stability.We are looking to hire a mass-spectrometrist to characterise our molecules in depth. The work will be focussed on peptide mapping to identify and quantify post-translational modifications, top-down methods to characterise complex modalities such as bispecific antibodies, and the development of new methods, as per pipeline need and candidate expertise. We have a state-of-the-art suite of high-resolution mass spectrometers at Stevenage, including a Bruker TimsToF and EMR/UHMR Orbitrap instruments.This role is ideally suited to a recent PhD graduate or a scientist with lab experience looking to take the next step in their career.We create a place where people can grow, be their best, be safe, and feel welcome, valued and included.   • Plan, design, and execute experiments to characterise proteins using mass spectrometry, both top-down and bottom-up
  • Communicate experimental outcomes to non-experts on multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Develop new mass spec methods to characterise novel therapeutic modalities and formats
  • Keep high quality electronic lab notebooks and write scientific reports

Why you?Basic Qualifications & Skills:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in chemical or biological sciences.
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience characterising proteins or peptides by mass-spectrometry

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Experience in troubleshooting MS instruments/methods
  • Familiarity with antibody drug discovery processes
  • Experience characterising proteins using biophysical and biochemical methods
