Our work depends on a Windows Sr. System Administrator joining our team to support the Guard Enterprise Cyber Operations Support (GECOS) program in Falls Church, VA.

This is an IT Service Management contract in support of the operation, modernization, expansion, and further evolution of the ARNG’s global Information Technology (IT) services including networking, compute, storage, infrastructure, applications, hosting, and program management services. The GECOS program supports the ARNG enterprise IT infrastructure, its Wide Area Network (WAN), authentication and directory services, cybersecurity, application hosting, and associated services. GECOS uses ITIL best practices framework as the basis for IT Service Management (ITSM) model.

HOW A WINDOWS SR. SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Support Servers and Workstations for the Infrastructure Management Team’s Windows systems

  • Responsible for applying Microsoft Windows server and workstation patches, hotfixes, and STIGs for the Infrastructure Management Team’s Windows systems.

  • Identify trends, implements new solutions/processes that fix issues, and continually strives toward moving from a reactive stance to a proactive stance.

  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Quick Reference Guides (QRGs) to automate tasks for the team and provide users “Self Service” options.

  • Perform process improvement reviews to recommend and make changes for efficiencies.

  • Prioritize customer strategic goals and provide recommendations and technical solutions with attention to detail and understanding of the customer needs and requirements.

  • Must maintain proper security posture through monitoring, testing, and evaluation of all information systems and solutions deployed on the network.

  • Participate in Change Management process.

  • Monitor and manage ticket queues and all work to ensure SLAs are met or exceeded.

  • Provide high quality customer service and document user needs and resolve issues.

  • Provide input to Disaster Recovery/COOP plans and execution.

  • Manage server hardware and software upgrades and other projects.

  • Perform server and rack installations.

  • Develop and deliver status reports for leadership and customer.

  • Write and revise PowerShell scripts to automate monitoring and management tasks.

  • Develop processes and tools that ensure that capabilities are effectively transitioned to Network Operations and tier 2 teams, including the existence of adequate monitoring, and comprehensive playbooks for quick resolution of incidents.

  • Implement effective monitoring solutions and assist in establishing the appropriate response to those events through processes and procedures, enabling level 1 and 2 teams to resolve as many issues as possible.

  • Research and monitor current end-user response time as well as application and system performance and availability.

  • Work with SQL engineer to ensure effective management and monitoring for optimal application performance

  • Provide recommendations and participate in hardware and software lifecycle process

  • Monitor and report existing applications/systems and infrastructure.

  • Create automated solutions for data collection and reporting for existing applications and infrastructure for Performance and Availability

  • Work with the application and infrastructure teams to setup Performance monitoring for the applications, databases, and network

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education/Equivalent Training Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Required Experience:

  • 7+ years of overall demonstrated experience as a Windows Workstation / Server Administrator

Required Technical Skills Requirements:

  • IT experience supporting large enterprise Windows workstation / server environment.

  • Experience with PowerShell scripting engine to automate tasks.

  • Experience with the installation, configuration, and administration of Windows systems

  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and decision-making capabilities, including understanding user requirements, troubleshooting technical issues, successfully resolving issues and challenges, and developing creative solutions for process improvement.

  • Dependability, in that the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve.

  • Must have customer service experience as this position will require candidate to engage with senior military and government leadership.

  • Must be able to present your ideas clearly through briefings, meetings, and interaction with leadership of different skill sets.

  • Must be able to provide training sessions as required.

  • Must be able to engage with stakeholders to ensure tasks are progressing and meeting timelines.

  • Experience with Hardware and Software lifecycle processes

  • Other duties may be assigned, directed, or requested.

Certification Requirements:

  • Must possess at interview the appropriate baseline certification(s) to achieve DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II compliance, such as CompTIA Security+ CE.

  • Will need to obtain an additional certification within six months of hire, to include one of the CSSP sections certifications (e.g., CEH, CCNA Security, CND, etc.). Candidate may have further discussions with the program’s Enterprise Operation Manager for more details.

  • When 8140 requirements are implemented on program/contract, employee will need to conform to 8140 certification standards.

  • Maintain and upgrade certifications.

Security Clearance Level Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of an active Secret clearance at time of interview and candidate must maintain active clearance.

Location:

  • Falls Church, Virginia

  • Hours and days TBD upon hire.

  • Three (3) days onsite with up to two (2) days telework. Onboarding/transition in period requires on-site support up to 60 days. GECOS work schedules are subject to change on direction by mission requirements from GDIT or USG leadership.

Travel:

  • Up to 10%. Travel may include attending conferences up to two times annually and site visits as needed.

The likely salary range for this position is $123,250 – $166,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
