Job Description:Grade UE06: £32,982- £38,205 per annumCorporate Services Group / Bioresearch & Veterinary ServicesFull-time: 35 hours per weekOpen-endedWe are looking for a Senior Transgenic Technician to join our team.The Opportunity:This a technical position which involves providing specialised and expert technical support and training for the generation and cryopreservation of transgenic research models of a high quality and professional service. Candidates are required to have proven experience and competence in techniques related to transgenic model generation such as injection of embryonic stem cells into blastocysts, pronuclear injections, electroporation, cryopreservation and embryo transfer. They must hold, or be willing to hold, a Home Office Personal Licence. The successful applicant will be able to work as part of a team and independently supporting researchers, junior staff and facility management with clear communication skills. They will have the ability to provide authoritative technical advice to management and other staff members. Due to the nature of the role, they may be required to work out of office hours from time to time. On occasion, they may be required to provide husbandry services, care and welfare checks, as dictated by the business needs. All staff are actively encouraged to develop their Continued Personal Development personal skills and techniques-base by access to internal and external training programmes.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed for the Job:Essential

  • Relevant academic/vocational qualifications at HNC level and relevant work experience in a transgenic production environment.
  • Hold, or be willing to hold a Home Office Personal Licence.
  • Proven experience and competence in techniques related to transgenic animal generation such as injection of embryonic stem (ES) cells into blastocysts, pronuclear injections, electroporation, cryopreservation and embryo transfer.
  • Experience in the supervision and mentoring of members of staff.
  • Proven ability to effectively and clearly communicate to a wide variety of staff and researchers at all levels
  • Demonstrable knowledge of IT systems including Word, Excel and databases.
  • Ability to provide authoritative technical advice to management and other staff members.
  • Excellent organisational skills, record keeping and attention for small details.

Desirable

  • Experience in the maintenance of complex transgenic breeding programs.
  • NACWO Qualification.
  • RAnTech Qualification.
  • Experience specifically with a Facility Management Database.
