Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in Community Nursing

The School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Community Nursing. This is a Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) to the teaching stream for a three-year term to commence July 1. 2025.

The successful candidate must have 1) demonstrated recent expertise in applying the principles and practice standards of community health nursing to educate students about the knowledge and skills needed for the diverse roles community nurses engage in to provide health care for individuals, families, and communities; and 2) demonstrated incorporation of social justice, health equity, and advocacy in their teaching of strategies for health promotion and disease prevention. An understanding of community nurses’ roles in diverse settings (e.g., shelters, correctional facilities, public health programs) for health teaching; developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based interventions; and policy development is an asset.

Candidate Qualifications:
Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, as well as a Master’s in Nursing or a related field (Nursing preferred), is required. Individuals with a PhD or PhD in progress in Nursing or related field are preferred. Candidates must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario by November 25, 2024.

Teaching:
• A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students. The successful candidate will demonstrate skillful experience in university level classroom teaching with undergraduate BScN students demonstrating knowledge of appropriate learning theory, innovative teaching methodologies and a commitment to ethics, equity, diversity, inclusivity and decolonization (EDID) in their teaching.
• The successful applicant will be expected to coordinate students supervised by clinical course directors in practice settings. The candidate will also integrate a variety of learning measures including NCLEX type questions to enhance performance on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
