The course commences with an outline of structure elucidation techniques in organic chemistry (spectroscopy) and proceeds to discuss the reactivity and properties of important functional groups. Emphasis is placed on synthetic and mechanistic principles that are applied to pharmaceutically and biologically important compounds whenever possible, providing students with a working knowledge of modern organic chemistry.Estimated TA support: 90 TA hoursEstimated course enrolment: 128 studentsIn-person class schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (2:00 – 4:30 pm)*Please note, that the delivery method for this course is currently 100% in-person. Experience in lecturing and/or coordinating laboratories in organic chemistry at the university level will be preferred.Description of duties: The Department of Chemistry requires a sessional lecturer to deliver the in-person lectures in CHM247H1S (Introductory Organic Chemistry II) during the 2024 Summer session.
