The course is divided into two broad thematic strands and various selected sub-topics exploring the relationship between legal actors who develop and administer law and the legal subjects whose lived experiences are shaped by law. We will analyze the impact of policies, practices, and outcomes within the realm of criminal justice on race, class, gender, and other forms of social inequality. Students will be introduced to a range of practical and theoretical issues associated with state responses to marginalized groups and how these groups perceive and experience crime and the criminal justice system.Estimated course enrolment: 80 studentsEstimated TA support: 140hrsClass Schedule: Thursday 6:00pm – 9:00 pm (In-person)*Please note, the delivery method for this course is currently in-person. Prior experience in criminal law, including subject matter expertise of inequalities in the criminal justice system.Preferred qualifications: PhD is preferred, a doctorate in a relevant discipline; teaching experience at the University level.Description of duties:

• Develop the course curriculum, including lectures, course reading materials, activities, and assessments.
• Design, prepare and deliver course content, including conducting lectures or seminars.
• Develop and administer assignments, tests, and/or examinations.
• Supervise TA in developing assessments, grading criteria and rubrics.
