In this way, magical realism challenges our usual expectations about reality and its representation. This course will explore the origins of magical realism in visual arts and its exciting revisions in diverse historical and cultural settings. Issues of individual and communal identity, social justice, revenge and haunting, traumatic past and collective memory, power struggles and political upheaval are all part of this literary style. We will look at paintings, read fiction and non-fiction, and consider film as productive contexts to examine the uneasy marriage between plausible reality and magical imagination.Section: LEC0101Day(s): Tuesday, ThursdayTime(s): 12-1, 11-1Estimated Enrolment: 56Est of TA hours: 84Sessional dates of appointment: September 3, 2024 – December 31, 2024Salary

SL3 Long Term – $21,140.03 per full coursePlease note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, admin. and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising any TAs assigned to course, if applicable.Minimum Qualifications: PhD in English with specialization in magical realism, postcolonial literature, world literature, or a related topic; experience teaching magical realism, postcolonial literature, world literature or related topics at the university level; strong academic record; demonstrated teaching ability; evidence of currency in subject matter.Application Instructions:
