Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)Description:The Department of History is seeking 1 Sessional Lecturer for the following course:HIS200H1F: Drunk HistoryHistories of wine or beer or vodka often focus either on the production of these alcoholic beverages and their role in national or local economies, or on the ways that drinking is part of celebration. But drunkenness enters the historical record in other ways, too-not just as a social lubricant but as a social ill, one associated with intimate violence or violence to the self and with mass protest. From worries about the Gin Craze to race-based restrictions on consumption, from tax policies to policing, this class will consider the many ways that drunkenness has been accepted, denounced, and legislated in societies around the world...Minimum qualificationsMaster of Arts in History or related field required. Mastery of the subject area as related to the course description above required.Preferred qualifications: PhD in History preferred. Demonstrated evidence of superior undergraduate teaching preferred. Previous experience teaching a similar course is highly desirable..Description of duties:Course preparation, lecturing, marking. Supervision of TA(s) in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement. There will be 24 hours of lectures in this course and one office hour per teaching week.Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located.Estimated Course Enrolment: 120 students.Estimate of TA Support: 336 hoursSchedule: Thursdays 17:00-19:00 In-person lecturesSessional Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024Rate of Pay:Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90 includes 4% vacation paySessional Lecturer 1, Long term: $9,930.79 includes 6% vacation paySessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77 includes 6% vacation paySessional Lecturer II, Long term : $10,326.61 includes 6% vacation paySessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76 includes 6% vacation paySessional Lecturer III, Long term : $10,570.01 includes 6% vacation payPlease note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Application instructions: Applications should be emailed to and must include:
