Sessional Lecturer – INFR 1030U – Essential Math for Games II – Winter 2025Tracking Code: req1337Faculty of Business and Information TechnologyNumber of Sections: 1Appointment Type: Limited TermSalary Grade: Administered in accordance with the Collective AgreementPosting Date: September 30, 2024Closing Date: November 11, 2024Course Name and Number: INFR 1030U – Essential Math for Games IILocation of classes: North CampusCourse Start Date: January 6, 2025Course End Date: April 25, 2025Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in INFR 1030U – Essential Math for Games II.The current schedule is:Tuesdays 11:10AM – 2:00PM(This schedule is subject to changes)Responsibilities/Accountabilities:The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.Qualifications:In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.Note that this course will be delivered in-person at Ontario Tech University’s North Campus in Oshawa, Ontario.Required Education:The successful applicant must hold at least one of the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a game development program AND a minimum of two years of work experience in the game development industry; OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree in statistics and a minimum of two years’ work experience the game development industry; OR
  • A Bachelors degree in a game development program or in statistics AND documented evidence of having taught this course or its equivalent (80% of content identical to INFR 1030) at the university level within the past three years; OR
  • A Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in Statistics.
  • A Masters or PhD/PhD (ABD) in Mathematics with a focus on Statistics

Preference will be given to candidates with Masters or PhD degrees.Required Skills:The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meets and Kaltura.
  • Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.
  • An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community.

Required ExperiencePreference will be given to candidates who have taught or led tutorials in quantitative courses such as statistics, calculus, or mathematical modeling.
