Campus: St. George (Downtown)Description: Introduction to Academic Writing is a course offered in collaboration with Innis College and introduces the fundamentals of essay writing within an interdisciplinary context. Includes the history of the essay and its various rhetorical modes (narrative, descriptive, expository, argumentative), with a focus on humanities and social sciences essays.Minimum Qualifications: Completed or nearly completed Ph.D in English or related discipline with in-depth knowledge of Transitional Year Programme (TYP) student supports, curriculum, and culture. Demonstrated commitment to equity and anti-oppressive/social-justice approaches to education. Familiarity with Quercus and online/remote instructional methods. Previous coursework in English or academic writing fundamentals.Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at the university level preferred. Previous work experience, and/or coursework relating to anti-oppression and/or social-justice approaches to post-secondary education. In-depth knowledge of the University of Toronto community and University of Toronto student experience an asset. Knowledge of/experience with adult education and the University of Toronto.   • Preparation of a course syllabus for WWR103H1S
  • Preparation and presentation of course materials for lectures and tutorials to help students succeed in academic writing and academic skills building, including time management, note taking, study skills, preparation for writing, dealing with the stresses and complications of academic writing.
  • Schedule and conduct weekly office hours to offer counselling for students with respect to academic progress and assist them in obtaining appropriate counseling for non-academic matters.
  • Evaluating attendance and course participation for teaching WRR103H1S.
  • Attending regularly scheduled faculty and staff meetings.
  • Submitting marks for assessments associated with WRR103H1S.
