Are you passionate about wildlife and do you have a strong understanding of woodland, trees outside woodland and wetland improvements for the benefit of wildlife? We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic person to help deliver our Severn Treescapes project, a well-established collaborative partnership with Gloucestershire and Herefordshire Wildlife Trusts.
You’ll need good communication skills, strong organisational ability and at least 12 months relevant experience. Most importantly, you’ll bring enthusiasm to deliver project objectives and work collaboratively with your colleagues, landowners, contractors and volunteers.
The Severn Treescapes project will create a 60-mile north-south corridor (1728km2) across three counties, achieving 30% woodland cover by 2035. It will test woodland creation and increasing connectivity at scale across productive landscapes. The area currently covers Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire from the Lower Wye Valley through the Forest of Dean, Leadon Vale, Woolhope Dome and Malvern Hills, to the Wyre Forest.
The Severn Treescapes Woodland and Wetland Advisor will bring additional capacity to a well-established team to help deliver advisory visits, training and support to farmers and land managers interested in benefitting from grant support for trees and woodland, including hedgerows, wood pasture, traditional orchard and agroforestry grant funding.
An important strand of our Severn Treescapes work is a focus on deadwood, traditional orchards and veteran trees in the landscape. This role will help to deliver elements of our Dead Wood Society project. These involve liaising with landholders to manage, expand and create traditional orchards in Worcestershire (through Environmental Land Management scheme (ELMs) actions where possible but through other funding sources as well), promoting and protecting important habitats and key saproxylic species, such as noble chafer beetles, mistletoe marble moths, orchard toothcrust fungi and red-horned cardinal click beetles. The Dead Wood Society (funded until March 2029 by Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme) is very much a team effort and you will liaise closely with the other advisors and the Engagement and Communications Coordinator to deliver advice and events around these themes.
We are Worcestershire’s leading nature conservation charity, committed to protecting wildlife and the natural environment. We are supported by over 21,000 individual members. Our 40 staff are supported by 500 volunteers who are vital to the delivery of our work. We manage more than 75 nature reserves across the county, covering 12.5 square kilometers of land, and provide land management advice across a quarter of Worcestershire. Inspiring people to take action for nature is central to our work, from schools and youth groups to communities and local businesses.
Our strategy to 2030 focuses on three key goals:
We are one of 46 independent Wildlife Trusts across the UK.
We’re Wild About Inclusion. To us, this means inspiring, empowering and engaging people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities and abilities to change the natural world for the better. It also means cultivating inclusive workspaces that are free from discrimination, where differences are valued and everyone can be themselves and flourish, just like nature! As a Disability Confident Committed employer, we actively
welcome applications from disabled candidates. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements required and choose to apply under the scheme will be offered an interview.
We offer a supportive, friendly and purpose‑driven working environment where your contribution genuinely makes a difference for wildlife and local communities. As part of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, you’ll benefit from:
