Job Description:UE07- £40,247- £47,874 per annumCMVM/Edinburgh Medical School/Deanery of Biomedical Sciences/Centre Discovery Brain SciencesFull-time- 35 hours per weekFixed-Term- 2 yearsThe Opportunity:To contribute to the programme of world-leading research in the Simons Initiative for the Developing brain, using whole cell patch clamp electrophysiological assessment of rat models of ASD/ID as well as in vivo expression of viral vectors to determine cell-type specific functional properties.This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.The salary for this post is £40,247 to £47,874 per annum.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline
  • Expertise in relevant approaches and models, analytical techniques and methods.
  • Expertise in single-cell electrophysiology (whole-cell patch-clamp) in rodent brain slices
  • Excellence performing and analysing in vitro and in vivo physiology experiments in rodents to investigate the cortex or hippocampus.
  • Experience in performing intracranial stereotaxic injections in adolescent rats.

Professor David Argyle is the Head of College, the only conjoint Medical and Veterinary Medical School in the UK. The College employs over 3000 academic and support staff. The College has two Schools, the Edinburgh Medical School comprising three Deaneries; Biomedical Sciences; Molecular Genetic and Population Health Sciences and Clinical Sciences and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.The undergraduate medicine teaching programme in the College enjoys a high reputation nationally and internationally, with over 1,300 students enrolled on the MBChB and Intercalated courses and nearly 1000 on the Veterinary Sciences BVS and related programmes. In addition, approximately 2000 students are currently enrolled in the College’s taught and research post-graduate courses, including an extensive range of online distance learning diplomas and degrees.
