RoleThe Site Manager (quarrying and paving) is responsible for the safety, supervision, performance and development of the site’s operating, manufacturing and maintenance teams, as well as maintaining available reserves and optimizing plant performance. The Site Manager also interfaces with the functional teams (Environment, Land, Industrial Performance, Human Resources and Safety) and ensures operational excellence to achieve the highest productivity for the lowest production cost in a unionized workplace, in addition to ensuring Lafarge continues to be viewed as a valued member of the industry and local communities in which it operates.ResponsibilitiesSafety:

  • Be familiar with and oversee the application and enforcement of Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • See to employee safety and ensure that all contracts and projects on the site meet the safety policy requirements.

Production Management:

  • Ensure that aggregate production meets sales needs.
  • Develop, implement and track production, maintenance, stockpiling and distribution processes and strategies to achieve targeted key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee and manage local and national contracts to meet expectations.
  • Work with own team and the Eastern Canada industrial performance and local projects teams to analyze capital needs and requests.

Financial Management:

  • Plan, drive and track financial performance with local or regional tools.
  • Contribute to preparation of, and adherence to, the site’s annual budget.
  • Promote financial analysis to identify cost-cutting opportunities.
  • Forecast profitability and output to optimize return; balance inventory and sales so as to manage and minimize impact on working capital.

Inventory Management and Distribution:

  • Help with monthly inventory reconciliation and assist Distribution in balancing area inventories with demand.

Sustainable Mining:

  • Ensure that the site meets the terms of the Authorization Certificate.
  • Assist the mine planning team in developing and implementing the mine plan, including planning and monitoring subcontracted drilling and blasting operations.
  • Manage the multi-year mining plan by integrating the planning of production and rehabilitation phases so as to ensure reserve optimization while managing community impact.

Customer Focus:

  • Assist Sales, Distribution and Supply Chain in maintaining sufficient site inventory levels to meet demand.
  • Schedule and plan production to maximize available shipping inventory and minimize Truck Turnaround Time (TTT), while working with local Quality team to optimize product offering.

Coordination of Customer Service & Logistics Personnel:

  • Directly or indirectly supervise and coordinate Dispatch and Weighmasters.

Sustainability: Ensure the site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and regulatory guidelines for snow disposal and recycled products (rubble reception vs. recycled production).Environment Management:

  • Ensure the site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and regulatory guidelines.
  • Work with Central Environmental Department to develop, implement and manage operational standards to oversee activities and mitigate our environmental impact.

Community Relations:

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships within the community by participating in local activities, events and committees through partnerships with local actors.
  • Act as site representative with local stakeholders, including community members, neighbours and representatives of local/provincial authorities.

Human Resources:

  • Coordinate with HR team to effectively manage site employee relations and application of the collective agreement.

  • Budget: $15 million
  • Production: Aggregate (2.3 million tonnes), asphalt (200,000 tonnes), recycled material (100,000 tonnes) and snow disposal (1 million cubic metres), Concrete & Asphalt Demolition Wastes reception
  • Direct reports: 3
  • Indirect reports: 50+

Qualification ProfileEducation & Work Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in business or engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience, not necessarily in the aggregate or construction industry
