THE ROLE
The Site Manager will join our Operations team to represent the Woodland Trust locally,
managing a diverse portfolio of sites within South West England, within Somerset, West
of England and West Wiltshire, in line with the Trust’s standards and ensuring the
safety of our visitors, contractors and volunteers. The Site Manager will be responsible for
balancing visitor numbers with our conservations principals and management approach, ensuring
compliance with Health & Safety obligations and in accordance with the Woodland Trust’s
policies and standard contracts as well as contributing to the Trust’s corporate objectives and
aims.
You will lead creative woodland management, ancient woodland restoration and people engagement
projects, engaging stakeholders and being a strong advocate for our work and values. The role
will achieve results by building strong relationships with contractors, neighbours and
interested parties, alongside managing a variety of dedicated and passionate volunteers. The
area is central to delivering our Temperate Rainforest ambitions and the Site Manager will play
a key role while working with our Rainforest Project team.
A company car will be provided for this role.
THE CANDIDATE
With previous experience in land-based management in the forestry, woodland management or
nature conservation sector, you’ll have a strong track record of managing sites for nature and
people particularly woodlands, budget and contract management, and Health and Safety
management. You’ll have experience carrying out tree safety inspections and managing tree
safety, dealing with the impacts of tree pests and diseases.
You must have a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude, excellent communication skills, be commercially
aware and able to build effective partnerships internally and externally. A full driving
licence is a must have, along with the ability to undertake travel across a wide area,
sometimes to remote locations. Occasional overnight stays will be required and you will be
expected to live in the region and within easy reach of key sites in Somerset, West of England
and West Wiltshire.
