Chemonics International seeks a Social Cohesion Lead for the anticipated USAID-funded DRC/CAR Resilient Communities and Sustainable Livelihoods in the Mbomou-Uele Region. The DRC/CAR Resilient Communities and Sustainable Livelihoods Activity aims to mitigate inter-communal conflict; building communities’ resilience in the face of persistent insecurity and economic hardship; and strengthening community engagement and development. The activity will also address the threats and drivers to biodiversity conservation to promote a foundation for peace, stability, and development in the Mbomou Uele region.
The Social Cohesion Lead oversees the anticipated activity’s strategic vision of building communities’ resilience in the face of insecurity and economic hardship. This includes coordinating social cohesion activities and implementing trauma informed practices into the broader activity framework and with the activity team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic vision, management, and technical direction of program activities related to fostering social cohesion and rebuilding livelihoods.
- Identifies gaps and establishes entry points to connect grassroots movements and CSOs. Provides technical assistance, capacity strengthening, and leadership for advocacy efforts and policy changes in support of minority and marginalized groups.
- Build relationships with the private sector, relevant government ministries, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Lead the development of aspects of the work plan related to fostering social cohesion and rebuilding livelihoods.
- Support economic development assessments and use data to inform programming.
- Facilitate and/or provide capacity strengthening and training to team and partners as needed.
- Collaborate with operations, MEL, grants, and other program teams to implement, monitor, and closeout activities.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area such as international relations, conflict analysis, international development, social sciences, or law. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Seven (7) to nine (9) years of progressively responsible management experience with an international assistance organization or non-governmental organization in community development, stabilization, conflict resolution, reconciliation, social cohesion, and/or citizen security.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with national and local government counterparts and civil society organizations.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience, including mentoring, training, and guiding staff.
- Strong managerial, administrative, and writing skills are preferred.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Experience on donor-funded projects in Central African countries.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and French, knowledge of local language preferred.
- Position likely based in Kinshasa or Bangui.
